She stood up to Magua and in defiance jumped off the cliff to land in the arms of her deceased lover. I see the actual jump as her breaking free from her shell and showing the whole world that her spirit can fly."

Posted - June 06 2005 : 2:51:16 PM She was looking to see at what angle she needed to jump so she would land right on top of Uncas! Or Perhaps she was judging the length of the fall and wondering if she would bounce at the bottom! Ok but seriously, I think she was looking at Uncas and thinking about how he gave his life for her and how disappointed he would be if he knew she had given up and went on with Magua. I think she gained a lot of strength from Uncas' death and decided that she was going to make his sacrafice beneficial. She stood up to Magua and in defiance jumped off the cliff to land in the arms of her deceased lover. I see the actual jump as her breaking free from her shell and showing the whole world that her spirit can fly. |

Posted - May 23 2005 : 2:46:40 PM To me she has just a thought: Uncas. She wants to join him, to be with him forever. She was thinking "wait for me, my love, I'm going to be with you...". She wants to see him for the last time. |

Posted - May 20 2005 : 10:30:38 AM That's actually quite a hard question to answer!! On the one hand, was she thinking anything at all?! Alice often wore a disconnected look, probably as she was both physically and mentally exhausted and haunted by everything she had seen. Every aspect of her body and mind were pushed to their very limits, so perhaps she, through sheer exhaustion, didn't have the energy to go on and had had enough, and so wasn't thinking in "logical" terms at all.
On the other hand, she had just watched her lover (in my opinion that is!!!!) and rescuer plunge to his death after being brutually murdered by a cruel and bitter man who was due to be her husband, so was reaffirming to herself what course of action she had to take - to kill herself. In my opinion, she was anticipating death, in order to join Uncas again. Then again, I could be wrong Lookbackatme |
