This is my first posting, so please bear with me. I have loved this movie and am so glad to find this site. I was looking at reviews on amazon.com regarding the director's dvd, and found the following reviews. First, does anyone know of any documentaries that were made regarding the making of LOTM? I found the featurette on this website, but the following review on amazon made me wonder: I've always loved this movie, despite its errors, and I actually like it more since it doesn't follow the book. I've always been a huge fan of 19th Century American writers and their works, but I really didn't enjoy the book "Last of the Mohicans". I had seen some of the making-of documentaries about this movie and saw some scenes that didn't make it into the movie, so when they were re-edited in I certainly was thrilled with that. I also appreciated the removal of the dialogue that was clearly 20th Century and wouldn't have fit in back then. I'm not saying that this film is history (or even the book, for that matter), but as a serious student of that time period, my stomach turned more at some of the discourses between the characters than the historical errors.
All in all I liked the re-cut version better than the original, and they are both better than the book, but I suppose any number of items are up for personal subjectivity.

Also, has anyone purchased the foreign version of the DVD and found extra scenes (as noted in this review)? I would like to thank James Luckard, one of the previous reviewers, for mentioning that the uncut, theatrical version of this film is available from amazon.co.uk.

Recently, however, I discovered that while this American director's cut DVD is from Fox, Warner Bros holds the rights to Mohicans outside the USA, and they have released the original theatrical version on DVD aruond the globe. I have a regionless DVD player, which is easy to get in many stores for under fifty dollars, so I bought a copy of the British DVD at amazon.co.uk

Thank you for any help or information!

Alice

I'm 99.9% certain that that's all there is ...

Thanks for the info. What about the making of any documentaries on the making of LOTM? I haven't seen, or heard of anything that reviewer mentioned. I've only seen the movie trailers and the featurette posted here. Just curious!

Thanks!

I think they are referring to the theatrical release, apparently available only on VHS in the states but on DVD overseas (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005MHNB/qid=1109284592/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_11_1/026-6868843-5314001). I couldn't find a similar original DVD on regular amazon.com ... this may be the solution to those limited-wear VHS copies!

AliceH, if this DVD is what I think it is then it won't include extra scenes ... as far as I know the few scenes not available on the VHS edition are included on the Director's Cut DVD.
