In the interview with Mohican Press, Eric Schweig said that they *did* film a love scene (as it were), but that it wasn't sexual...more "puppy love" and that he wished they had left it in because then the ending would have made more sense (or something to that effect). Wes Studi (Magua) also said something about how Alice was supposed to be in love with Uncas but with cutting he didn't know if that ever came through...
I'm wondering if Mann cut it simply because of time, or if he had some higher purpose...what a mystery! |

Posted - March 30 2005 : 3:56:52 PM Ya know I was just about to ask if they even filmed any footage of Uncas and Alice because I remember hearing everyone say that her mama was on the set or something and did not approve of it. I don't know. I guess we will just have to cross our fingers and hope that MM does release all of his footage. I know I would be the first in line to see that. Although I am kinda hoping he will release it on another dvd. Kinda like they did with Dances with Wolves. I am not too keen on going to theaters. I just can't seem to focus when the people around me are kicking my seat or talking on their phones!
Oh and I have a question. Has MM ever been invited to one of the gatherings? That would be pretty interesting to have him see what he has created! |

Posted - March 30 2005 : 11:55:11 AM Personally, I'd like to see it too. There's just sooooo much Uncas and Alice and . It just gets a little . It's kinda' funny, even at my age I still think too much can be kinda' silly. |

Posted - March 30 2005 : 11:23:04 AM Hey, Light of the Moon,
Just FYI, no one here on this message board knows for certain whether or not Mr. Mann actually filmed any love scene(s) between Alice & Uncas because no one has ever seen "LOTM" in the original, uncut version. And the Alice & Uncas "did they love each other and/or have a physical relationship or did they not" thing has NOTHING to do with my motivation behind my suggestion to send emails to Mr. Roeper, asking him to talk to Mr. Mann about whether or not he would consider re-releasing "LOTM" in its entirety. I just want to see the film in its entirety, with added footage (DVD version) and with the deleted scenes & lines (DVD version again!) added back in, AND with all of the original stuff we have NEVER seen.
There is a very detailed interview with Russel Means elsewhere on this message board, and as one of the major actors in the film, even he laments the fact that 20TH Century Fox insisted on having the film's footage cut so much because had they left that footage in, the movie would be even more of a sweeping epic of the F&I War, that period of time in our nation's history, and its people. IF the additional footage DID include more between Alice & Uncas, then that would be a bonus for those that are fixated on that particular couple, I'm sure. Personally, I love the relationship between Hawkeye & Cora!
As I said, I just want the opportunity to see "LOTM" in its entirety. I just hope that Mr. Roeper asks Mr. Mann to consider a re-release & that Mr. Mann is open to that suggestion! |

Posted - March 29 2005 : 8:19:47 PM HEY! APRIL 2ND IS THIS SATURDAY, FOLKS!!!
Let's hope that Mr. Roeper asks Michael Mann about re-releasing LOTM in its original entirety & that he is successful in persuading him to do so! |

Posted - March 17 2005 : 3:12:36 PM Michael Mann is being honored in early April with the Visionary Award For Innovation In Filmmaking at The Gene Siskel Film Center of the Art Institute of Chicago on SATURDAY, APRIL 2, 2005. Read more about it on this message board at this link:

I'M wondering - since he's going to be interviewed by Richard Roeper - if we could somehow get Mr. Roeper to ask Michael Mann about releasing LOTM again in its original, 3 hour long format???! |
