Who do you consider to be the bravest character in The Last of the Mohicans? List a few reasons why you think they are the bravest. I have to say, I'm not sure who I think is the bravest..they all are to me! But, what are your opinions?

I'm going to agree with susquesus on this, but I also agree with Warparty's post regarding Heyward. These to characters showed tremendous amounts of bravery.

I agree that all of the characters were brave in their own way...but I would say Chingackook was the bravest.....he watched his own son die before his eyes but went ahead to kill Magua with such skill....
Alice was brave too...i mean judging by how terrified she was in the earlier parts, jumping off the cliff to her death took a great deal of courage....
Uncas..... definitely chivalry bravado at its best...the way he ran ahead of his father and brother to rescue Alice..the way he continued fighting Magua even when he knew he might die....
Cora...definitely tons of courage and nerves of steel under fire!!!

All the characters were brave in their own way. Col. Munro showed alot of courage. Definitely Alice, Cora, Uncas and Hawkeye...but I think Duncan was the bravest. Not only did he face physical danger in leading an army, hand to hand combat, standing up to his officers regarding their loyalty to the crown but he overcame the jealousy that was overwhelming him. He knew that Cora did not love him before he asked her to marry him. Jealousy caused him to hate Hawkeye and lie about the war party raid. He realized he had lost Cora's respect as a man. He gave his life for Cora, giving her to Hawkeye where he knew she wanted to be; he saved both Cora AND Hawkeye. He unselfishly died a terrible death...I think he fully redeemed himself and Cora would restore him in her heart as a treasured friend.

There can be no doubt that Cora discovered her strength, courage and mental toughness in the face of adversity. this involved a brave act or two!

being burnt alive to save the woman you love and her lover now that's brave - the stereo-typical 'stiff upper lip' of the English....Major Heyward.

However I have to say Uncas is the bravest - a little rash maybe but very brave. I'm guessing he thought he could take Magua, bless him x Jacy

I'd have to go with Chingachgook. He watches his people's demise, the loss of his lands and authority, and finally the death of his son. Though in the later novels he develops a taste for the fire water, and becomes a rather dim spectre of death, he survives a lot of tragedy and keeps on keepin' on.

I think one of the great emotional pulls of this film is that almost all the main characters are heartbreakingly brave. In a way, I think Alice may have turned out to be one of the bravest after all. After Uncas is killed, she decides to follow him: and even if you also take into account her fear of captivity with the Huron, that's still a pretty daring decision. Michael Mann does a good job of portraying this when he shows that tight closeup of Alice's face just before the jump. She looks totally lucid (not panicky at all), then it seems as if she takes one last look at the world around her, and steps off into the unknown. I'm a hopeless romantic, so I like to think that Uncas's own bravery and love inspired her.
