Who is your all time favorite actor? Just thought it was a question we all could have fun with. I have two favorite actors of all time and they are; Eric Schweig (obvious) lol, and Shin Koyamada who plays Nobutada in The Last Samurai (great movie). So, let me know who you guys love!

Thanks for the welcome GG! Forgot to mention a favorite actress for consideration...Maureen O'Hara! I'm probably showing my age here - or maybe just the prejuidice of my Irish background?! There are so many greats to choose from...

Loved the pic of Tootsie as Theresa Kerry. Sent it to my brother-in-law who is a died in the wool Republican! As for me, "I do not call myself subject to much at all!" As for the original thread here... It would be SO hard to choose for me! I did notice that noone has mentioned Gary Cooper yet? I'm new to Mohicanland, at least on the web; but love it already!

I love the picture Diana! Too funny! Thanks!
Kaylynn44 Posted - August 25 2004 : 07:33:31 AM
Di,
That picture of Tootsie and Mrs. Kerry was so funny.
I also love Dustin Hoffman. My all time favorite movie with him is Kramer vs. Kramer. I cry every time that I watch it.

Love,
Kay

Hi all,

just had to say that if you haven't already got the Lady of Glencairn's pics of the lovely Col then you should defo ask for them - she is a genious at the whole copying the pics thing and he looks gorrrrrgeous!

I love the bit in Bridget Jones where she finds the truth out and I have to say - how much I would love to have Mr Firth fight over me!! Has anyone ever done the first scene with the hairbrush and the Celine Dion and the eating cereal in your pjs? I was sat with my best friend when we watched the movie and we both said - that we were Bridget!!
I think I'm probably quite clumsy and out-spoken too like she is!

Jacy x

OMG So not looking forward to being scared to death - am going to see the Village tonight!!
Kaylynn44 Posted - August 24 2004 : 5:57:42 PM
And the fight scene between Hugh Grant and him in Bridget Jones' Diary WAS HILARIOUS!!!

Di,
I LOVE that scene!!! But I think that the scene that I liked best was when Bridget finds out that Daniel was the one that fooled around with Mark's wife instead of the other way around. Okay, I just loved the whole movie!!! I can't wait for number 2. I might actually go to the theater to watch it instead of waiting for it to come to PPV
I also love Pride and Prejudice. I keep saying that I am going to buy a video tape so that I can watch it whenever I want to. I guess that I will get around to it one day.

I so have to agree with you! Im a huge fan of his, especially his work in Pride and Prejudice, my all time fave novel! I also like Jeremy Northam and Ralph Fiennes. But Colin gets my vote!

The resemblance is amazing!

I still think Tootsie is prettier!

Well, I think I have said it before, but I will say it again...

John Wayne. Simply for his old-fashioned "Star Power." He was not the best actor of his time, but there was just something about the guy!

As for living actors with genuine acting talent, I would have to rank Dustin Hoffman as just about the best, imho. I mean, if a guy who looks like that can pull off playing an attractive and feminine woman, without being effiminate (Tootsie), with such panache, he gets my vote!
Jacy Posted - August 24 2004 : 03:22:24 AM
uhuhuhuh with you on that one too he has the most gorgeous smouldering eyes.... Bridget Jones 2 you gonna go see it - or has it been and gone over there already?
Have you seen the Village - looks really scary supposed to be going to see it with the boyf on Weds... not really my type of thing but you gotta keep the guys happy (hee hee I bought LOTM on dvd and he's so gonna have to watch it!)

Hi GG,

Fav scene from Pride and Prejudice - the bit where he comes out of the lake with that big baggy shirt on! How many men could carry that off - very few. He was the the first guy I looked at in High School and said wow!!

Jacy ;)

Kay - I have to agree with you on Colin Firth! My all time favorite will ALWAYS be DDL, but Colin carries a close second. His picture must be in the dictionary beside the word "smoulder". I could watch him in Pride and Prejudice forever! He can actually make his eye twinkle on command! And the fight scene between Hugh Grant and him in Bridget Jones' Diary WAS HILARIOUS!!!

Hi Kay,

If this is any help for you, Keira Knightley was in the Pirates of the Carribean and is also 'starring' in the new King Arthur film. She's quite pretty but really wooden, just goes to show I guess that if you've got the look you can pretty much land the roles!
It's a shame cos it kinda brings the level of acting down a bit when we've got fab actors like DDL.

Any thoughts?

Jacy :)

PS Your son is a smart guy!
Kaylynn44 Posted - August 23 2004 : 05:53:22 AM
Jacy,
Well, I know that my son would agree with you about Keanu. He won't watch any movies that he is in because he thinks that he is a terrible actor. I actually like some of his movies. Not all of them, but I have seen a few that I enjoy. I don't think that I have ever seen a movie with the female actress that you mentioned.

Kay
Jacy Posted - August 23 2004 : 04:38:47 AM
Cor blimey what a question - so difficult!
Obvioulsy the method man DDL is a modern day acting hero, younger guy I would go for Christian Bale. Past I would go for James Stewart.
Gals - also Katherine Hepburn, and Rachel Weisz.

I happen to think that Keira Knightley is the worst female actress ever and Keanu Reeves the worst male. Both are completely wooden. Good examples of their awful acting would be Ms Knightley's blank stare and Mr Reeves in Dracula!

Anyone agree?

Jacy ;)

Overall, I immediately think of Katharine Hepburn, hands down. That lady not only was a great actor, she lead her life with grace and real spunk.

Scott Bubar Posted - August 22 2004 : 6:16:25 PM
Cooper? Burton? Jimmey Stewart? Michael Caine? O'Toole?

Can't make up my mind.
rydergrl Posted - August 22 2004 : 5:53:18 PM
I vote for Richard Gere and of lately Colin Firth. I'm also fond of Denzel Washington

Sorry, but I have to go back to the "Golden Age". My favorite is Spencer Tracy, aka Major Robert Rogers. His range, while not as varied as, say, DDL, was still remarkable, in an era where lead actors generally were not expected to have much range. Even the one major misstep on his resume, the lead in DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE (Tracy himself used to quote the review that started, "A new Abbott and Costello movie opened last night"), is today considered a worthy effort. But what is most remarkable to me is how easy he made it look. You never catch him "acting".

My second favorite is, I think, underrated because of a lot of the movies he found himself in: Boris Karloff. It's one thing to be great in great roles in well made films with good production values and direction. It's another thing to be remarkable in B or lower films - and Karloff was always outstanding, no matter what the material.

Of today's crop, I think the best actor may be Christian Bale - talk about range! Shakespeare, intense drama, sci-fi, musicals, dark comedy, costume epics, the guy has done it all, and done it all well. I can't say I'm a huge fan, but I find him fascinating to watch.

I have a couple as I can't make up my mind. Tom Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton, Robert Redford, Paul Newman...the list continues.
