Posted - August 13 2004 : 04:47:30 AM I love action-adventure films - especially those set in by-gone times, but this one is special. Ever since I was in highschool and learnt about the amazing history of the American Wild West I was facinated by it. LOTM is special beacsue it is rare to see a film that portrays Native American peoples as heros (hope I'm not offending anyone). I think film makers have always portayed 'Indians' as the scalping baddies and heathens. It was good to see that we have three characters to latch onto and respect who would not normally have 'had a look in' when it came to the lead roles and heros. In LOTM we have Hawkeye - the adopted son of the Mohican Chingachcook and the lovely Uncas (who we all seem to LURVE). Fenimore Cooper's tale was (I found) long-winded and typical of the time, but Mann's adaptation works on many different levels. I love the love stories within the film. Cora and Hawkeye's romance is whirl-wind and Uncas and Alice's love is yet to blossom - they are kind of the star-crossed lovers in this(I was gutted they got rid of the scenes that would have better told their tale). I love strong characters has plenty! Another film I really love is Dances With Wolves - you like it?
