Posted - May 09 2004 : 09:33:26 AM I was reading my Sunday paper this morning and found that 'Our favourite film' is on TV tonight over here. I thought I'd read the 'film choice' blurb to see how the paper describe it. I couldn't help thinking - as with ALL conflicts, it obviously depends on which side you are on...
"Frontiersman Hawkeye rescues and then falls in love with a British officer's daughter during the ANGLO-FRENCH WAR in North America." Having said that, calling it the 'French and Indian War' IS kinda misleading...
BUT - THEY ONLY GIVE IT THREE STARS (out of five)!!! HISS BOO!!! THAT REALLY SUCKS!! HUH!!! WHAT DO THEY KNOW!!!
PS - I'm on m' way out to the paper shop to cancel my subscription to this (*"%$) paper!!

Posted - May 09 2004 : 12:48:15 PM It's a SCOTTISH Sunday paper, called The Sunday Post. It's more a 'family' oriented paper, reporting Scottish/British issues, though they cover all the main world issues too. There is also an editorial column, which deals with both 'home and 'away' issues and is fairly... liberal in it's approach.
I have to admit, I was surprised to read that particular conflict described as the 'Anglo-French War'... I've never heard it described thus before, even over here. But... I'm thinking that perhaps it has some merit. After all, the British WERE involved but... in view of the way things turned out, do they REALLY want to admit to being a part of such a 'cruel and indifferent' conflict? It's not something I'd have thought they'd want 'top billing' for!!
Perhaps it's just MY crazy way of looking at things...
