Who was the lost member of the crew who made Chingachgook's original warclub, Hawkeye's shooting bag, arranged for all the principle guns to be made, ordered and aged all of the accoutrements, muskets, flags, swords, knives, made the maps , etc. and had his hand in virtually every prop in the film ,and kept the prop warehouse running until prep was over? He was the assistant propmaster, but Michael Mann made him so crazy, he left on the first day of shooting. The producer refused to give him credit after he left. He has continued to do the props for many of the film industry's biggest historical films. He's still alittle bitter, I guess.

Actually, Jo, the park mentioned above by Kelly and in another thread (Silver Falls State Park) is in the Pacific Northwest... Oregon, to be exact. So, it wouldn't be the same one your friend visited.

But, I have been amazed, when watching the movie, at how much the landscape really does look like the areas of New York where the story actually takes place. I can see why your friend would think that after seeing areas of the northeast. But, of course, the Adirondacks are considered to be part of the Appalachian range... so I guess they would look quite similar.

This is very interesting. I have an aquaintance who took a vacation up in the Northeast and swears that some of the scenes were filmed at the park she camped/visited/was told about....I never quite listened to the specifics...but this is I believe what she may be talking about. But I don't believe it "clears it up any"....

Thanks for finding that note from Daniel Winkler! He did some fine work! I still have a couple of his principle knives, which I've used in several other films. It's nice to know that someone remembers me from the film. Did you know that some of the waterfall scenes were filmed in Silver Falls? This isn't well known, or at least it wasn't 'til I got on here a couple of days ago.

Hello, Kelly!

This range a little bell in my mind, so I did a little research and found this: www.mohicanpress.com/wwwboard/messages15/8529.html And so, welcome to someone else who was so involved in our favorite film.

I took a peek at your profile, and I can answer another trivia question: "Where is Silverton, Oregon?" I know exactly where it is. I grew up in Lebanon and lived in Salem for a number of years. I also had cousins who lived just outside of Aumsville. I passed through the little town of Silverton many times, on the way to Silver Falls State Park... one of my favorites.
