Posted - April 06 2004 : 10:00:55 PM I voted for Hawkeye in the "Favourite Character" poll, but really it was a tie between Hawkeye and Cora. This thread is dedicated to my favourite screen heroine, and all those who love and admire her. I think Cora embodies all the best qualities that a woman can possess. She awes me with her strength, courage, forcefulness and indomitable spirit. She captivates me with her fierce passion, her warmth and her astonishing tenderness. She makes a woman's love seem like the most beautiful and wondrous thing in the world. I defy any man with blood in his veins to watch "The Kiss" and not wish himself in Hawkeye's place.
There's a depth and substance to Cora that makes most of the supposedly "modern" screen heroines seem so lightweight and insipid in comparison. A man could achieve ANYTHING with such a woman by his side- she is more than a worthy match for Hawkeye.I can only dream of being half the woman that she is.She is so wonderful, I don't know why all the men in LOTM aren't in love with her!*LOL*
I extend my praise to Madeleine Stowe. She didn't just capture Cora's splendour; she magnified it, so that Cora shone even more brightly than James Fennimore Cooper could have imagined. It was a perfect blending of actress and character. |

Posted - April 07 2004 : 05:02:24 AM I agree, Sidony. That film is, by far, Madeleine's strongest, most heartfelt, performance. She was perfect in her role - handled every scene with skill. Became very believeable. Best performance in the movie, I feel. Closely followed by Wes as Magua.
I don't know about all the men in LOTM, but I sure was in "love" with Cora!! |
