Posted - March 16 2004 : 2:09:41 PM I thought it was really obvious from the start of the movie that Cora and Hawkeye would fall in love..ya da yada....pretty much hollywood-style..though i do admit..it was a nice love story...but well..it was very in-your-face from the start... but Uncas and Alice? In my opinion, it was totally unexpected..and it was a welcomed addition to the movie..poignant and sweet...and it did not need any memorable and romantic lines like "I will find you. No matter how long it takes..no matter how far..I will find you."..though those were superb lines....but in my opinion...the looks uncas gave to alice..and the last scene at the cliffs when they both exchanged that wordless chain of expressions beofre both tragically died were unforgettable in itself..beautifully acted out..and my fave love story of all time.. |

Posted - April 07 2004 : 1:04:41 PM I get what u guys mean..no matter how cliche it is to have a couple fall in love in a movie..it's always nice.and there is no denying that cora and hawkeye had a good love story..i agree that it is one of the best i ever seen in movies (though i love pretty woman and notting hill)..alice and uncas 's muted love story definitely tops my list..because it is unexpected and very different from the usual type of love stories potrayed in movies..and i have seen one like that again..it's poignant..no extravagant kissing/love scenes or much dialogue..but the feelings are there |

Posted - April 05 2004 : 11:59:01 PM Eggggg-zactly! One sure fire way for an actor to hook me life is to take me through a whole string of emotions without ever saying a word. I can't resist those "acting" eyes. Daniel Day-lewis does this not only in LOTM but also as Newland Archer in Age of Innocense. Another of my favorite pairs on the screen is as Sidony mentioned, Lizzie and Mr. Darcy - Mmmmmmm what Colin Firth does with his eyes in that movie is amazing!!! And then to see him do it again, though not on the scale of Pride and Prejudice, as Mr. Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary was a treat!

Absolutely!
Ah-h-h-h-h, Sidony! I like the way you think! I agree with you totally. |

If Hawkeye and Cora are "cliched", then so are Rhett and Scarlett, Romeo and Juliet, Lizzie and Mr Darcy, and many other of the greatest romantic couples. We all knew that those couples would fall in love, but did that diminish the impact of their story? Absolutely not! The essence of a great love story is that two people are so obviously, overwhelmingly right for each other that they MUST fall in love. True. I love the Hawkeye and Cora for the way they look at each other, not for what they say. Most of their romance is portrayed just through the "conversations" they conduct with their eyes. Their one love scene, and it's prelude, takes place entirely without a word being spoken. For sheer acting, chemistry, and emotional impact, I think "The Kiss" easily surpasses anything between Uncas an Alice. Actually, it surpasses every other love scene that I've seen. There was so much intense, naked emotion in the way Cora looked at Hawkeye that I felt like a voyeur!

Posted - April 02 2004 : 1:21:49 PM yeah..my face part of the movie is definitely them..the cora/hawkeye story kinda hits u directly on ur head..while the uncas/cora one steals ur breath away with it's silent play of powerful emotions and expressions...i too admit i was quite attracted to cora/hawkeye's story at first..i use to love those lines he said at the falls..but i did notice the first time i watched the movie..the silent yearning and longing of uncas for alice..it's really an understated masterpiece |

Posted - April 02 2004 : 12:49:24 AM I was first drawn to the Cora/Hawkeye story in my first few viewings of LOTM, but after the 5th or so times, I found the story of Uncas and Alice more powerful and more touching, despite the lack of dialogue between them. Actually their story has become my favorite part of the movie. |

It has become a standing joke around my house, "Let me guess, you're watching LOTM, again." I can't help it. It has become my favorite movie of all times. I watch it at least once a week, especially on weekends. The soundtrack is in my cd player and the tape is in my tape deck. Even when I'm logged on to this site and one of the kids comes by and looks over my shoulder, it's "Let me guess, LOTM site."
And I do wish there were more scenes with Uncas and Alice, so that I could better "see" a their "love story." I do not fast-forward through the Cora/Hawkeye scenes. They are intense as well stimulating, and not necessarily because they are older, but perhaps because of their many differences--they too, have cultural differences, she having been brought up as a proper young English maiden, and he being raised in the wilds of the New World by his adoptive, Mohican father. You know what they say, "opposites attract." |

Posted - March 30 2004 : 3:44:16 PM I have to laugh...lol...I watch it a few times daily and the reason why I'm able to watch it so often is because I too fast forward all the scenes to the ones with just Uncas and Alice. It's endearing to see their love without a word spoken to each other. Of course, I always watch the other scenes before Alice, (the deerslayer and the cabin scenes). Oh! I was the lurking huron 1563...finally after so many days, I was able to register without any probs. |

Posted - March 30 2004 : 12:43:10 PM Yeah..I watch it on a daily basis too..kinda like my bedtime ritual..i never get tired of watching Uncas and Alice...kinda fast-forward all the Cora/Hawkeye scenes (Apologies to any Cora/Hawkeye fans!).. I like the fact that the whole story is done thru expressions and actions..and hardly any words..it brings about a stronger sense of well..love... too much words..no matter how pretty they sound..kinda distracts everything..and makes it mundane.. glad that u got my drift..'cos i thought i sounded confusing!! CoOL.. :) |

Posted - March 29 2004 : 1:00:48 PM Hmm..I wouldn't say the Cora/Hawkeye story was more intense beacuse of their ages..I would just say it's a good love story.. Uncas is supposedly quite close in age to Hawkeye..maybe only a couple of years younger...but the beautiful part is that he is aware of how young Alice is and how he handles that...and his gentleness towards her is heart-breaking and very touching.. while Cora/Hawkeye's love was more heated, more slick..more action-packed...Alice/Uncas's story was well... hauntingly fragile and bittersweet..moving.. if u catch my drift..I hope!!! : ) |

Posted - March 29 2004 : 12:38:14 AM I totally agree with the first post, the Hawkeye and Cora love story was very much expected (still nice story though). But I'm hooked on the Uncas and Alice love story, I was not expecting those two to fall for each other, and every scene with those two just makes me get goosebumpy and giddy with excitement. I watch this movie on a daily basis and I still get excited for them and yelling at Alice "Look at him and smooch him...dang-it all!" Very sweet; innocent; and unexpected which makes it a greater love story than Hawkeye's and Cora's in my opinion. Hawkeye and Cora are older and more intense whereas Uncas and Alice are still fairly young and...I don't know how to explain it. It's just beautiful. |
