It's sickening how butchered the movie is! How can anyone be proud of it! You claim yourselves to be fans, have any of you read the finley done book! Shame on you to raise hail to a farse! |

it may be helpful for you to see the book and movie as two sparate works.
i have read the book myself, and loved it.
its true, the movie doesnt really follow the plot too closely, but it is by itself a masterpiece like few others i have seen...
and if you dont like it...
what are you doing here in the first place? |

I can't say I've read the book, but there are *a lot* of books that I've neither read or had an urge to read. I'm not a big book person. But this is an excellent movie in terms of the time period, so much that the first time i saw, or let alone heard of this movie was in my history class last year. I might not read the book, and some details might have been deleted, but instead of critisizing us for not having read the book, which some people here have, by the way, you might want to change your technique to comparing and contrasting the book to the movie, to enlighten us all! |

I have read the book and seen the movie, but personally, I like the looks of this site and might join. You may not like it, but the fans here do, even if all some of them has seen is the movie. |

This movie had to have been at least three years old before I first saw it. It was one of the few movies (at the time) that our parish library stocked. Finally, one day in desperation to fill my five movie quota, I checked out the video and watched it. I was sold. I'd never read the book before, up until that time. So engrossed did I become by the movie that I did purchase the book to read, as I have often found, screen writers of movies often leave out scences, rewrite plots, etc.
Being a woman of the 20th Century, (and now 21st) Mr. Cooper's style of writing, much like other authors of that period, is difficult to read. Though it was a struggle to complete the book, I did manage to do so; and let me tell you, though I admire Mr. Cooper for conceiving this fine piece, (as without the book there would be no LOTM movie to enjoy and no Mohican Board to inneract with other fans), and though I don't call myself subject to much, I much prefer the video. Perhaps that is why I own the video, the DVD, the soundtrack, (cassette and CD) and am watching it again for the umpteenth and twenty-first time.

The movie was beautifully done and if you don't like it, then that is your right, just as it is ours to pay tribute to the movie. Please, if you think that the movie is so sickening, I suggest that you don't watch it anymore and just stick to the book. Simple as that.

It is a finely done film,that's why. I can think of none other from this period that even comes close.Nobody takes the time to read anymore anyhow,at least their getting something from the movie. |

If you had taken the time to look around this wonderful website that is chock full of wonderful history and information, you would have seen that, indeed, many have read "the finely done book." And those people appreciate it for what it is: a well written, classic American novel. I don't believe that anyone has said that it is not a "finely done book" (at least I can spell "finely", even if I don't consider it the best grammar).
We "raise hail", as you put it, to a... ahem... "finely done" movie that we all love. That doesn't mean that we dislike the book. We are all very aware of the differences between the movie and the book, and we admire them both for what they are: entertainment. Pure and simple entertainment. What a shame that you are not able to do so.
And with that... I would like to join with Theresa in challenging you to stay around Mohicanland. Why not come down off your high-horse and see what we're all about? If you would like to discuss the differences between the book and the movie with us... well, you would be most welcome. We will gladly listen to your ideas, as long as they are said in a respectful manner.

Well now, Mr. Bull...I have read the "finley" done book, once. Don't think I'll pick it up again as it was quite a struggle for me to finish. As for the movie, can't count the number of times I've seen it. I've learned more about the period from this movie and the people who live here in Mohicanland. They are a wealth of knowledge in their own right. Stick around...you might learn something.  |

To what would you have us "raise hail" to, Mr. Bull? To what you approve of? Sounds like you need your own web site ... or, perhaps a much longer look at ours!
