ok, does Steven Waddington actually talk like he does in Last of the Mohicans? and right before, the hurons were about to carry him away, Hawkeye asked Heyward "did you tell him?" and heyward said yes but gave him a certain look, what did that look mean? why did he almost half smile? what was that whole entire look he had on his face after Hawkeye asked him that about???

Ok see that just goes to show Major Heyward wasn't that bad of a person, he figured if I can't have Cora, then there's no need to be alive, because he figured if he couldn't have her, he didn't want anyone else!!!! Awww what a sweet guy! Hey!!! right before Nathaniel shot Heyward, was there tears in Nathaniel's eyes? Ya know, as much as I hate to admit it.....Nathaniel was for sure a hottie!!! Fo Shizzle My Nizzle!!!LOL!! But Major Heyward.....A T.K.O.! Hey are there any interviews here on Mohican Press with Steven Waddington, I'd really love to hear his thoughts on.....The Major!!!

When Hawkeye asks Duncan, "Did you tell him?", he is asking if Duncan told the Sachem that Hawkeye offered himself in trade for Cora's life. Actually, what Duncan did was to offer himself in trade, instead of Hawkeye.

I believe the look was his way of telling Hawkeye, "I have offered myself, so that you may take Cora away and live your life with her. She loves you, not me. I have lost her, but because I love her, I will sacrifice myself for her. You have won her hand, but I can do this one last thing for her: I can give my life."

That's just my take on it.

I agree with your take...that's how I'd always read into it.

It reminds me somewhat of the ending of "A Tale of Two Cities"--a sacrifice that never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

"'Tis a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done..." (sniffle, sniffle)

I agree with wilderness woman. First Duncan lied about what he had seen on the way, and than he offered himself... I think he just wanted the best for Cora. She already told him that she didn't want to mary him, so why would he push Cora to love him? And then Hawkeye saves Duncan from a terrible death. What a great story it is...

Pala,
Steven Waddington is British, so if you are asking if he speaks English the way he did in the movie... the answer is "yes." If you are asking about the scene in which he speaks French, you can go to this thread to see our discussion on that topic. Can Steven Waddington Speak French?
