Uncas ahd it all. The last of his people he was the heir to the Mohican tradtion. A handsome, strong, dashing warrior who was by no doubt the best of the best when it came to scrapping with a musket and hatchet. He loved Alice with an intensity that you can't fake. She was viewed as soft in the movie but she was secretly strong because of Uncas and his guidance. She was swept off her feet by this young warrior who absolutely would give his life for her. One on one Magua had met his match. But thanks to Magua's experience, He bested the younger stronger foe. Still Uncas and Alice live in God's world now and thats as it should be. Hey Do you guys want to write fan fiction for the Last of Mohicans?

hm..after reading those posts regarding the director's expanded version...the ones about the original theatre version having more snippets of alice/uncas..i was trying my darnest to remember the first time i watched the movie in the theatre! I really can't remember whether they were more scenes on alice/uncas..but I too thought at that time..uncas hugging alice under the falls seemed natural.. darn..wish i could get a cpoy of the original original version.
oh yeah..read the fanfiction..it was hilarious :)

I think there was another version of this movie, the one I saw in the theater in 1992 had a much better developed Uncas-Alice love story.

a horribly late reply...but..
oh man...i thought i was the only one crazy enough to spot those scenes mentioned above..i guess i'm not the only alice/uncas fanatic here..another scene that i thought was truly sweet of Uncas was the part when they were all getting into the canoes..you can see uncas holding the canoe steady for alice as she is climbing in....he is such s sweetie ( a real hot one at that)..and it just shows..he absolutely watches out for her.

[One on one Magua had met his match. But thanks to Magua's experience, He bested the younger stronger foe.[/font=Courier New])] Uncas had nothing over Magua. throughout the whole battle it was obvious who would win. in no way did magua meet his match.

I totally agree with all of you. I noticed these scene too. But when I learned that there is a love scene in the cave i just want to see it but I agree with you english trader about the 18th century sensibilities and theses scene were very beautiful.

Yes, I agree with Lurking Huron 0943. The scene where Uncas holds Alice back against himself at the waterfall and she holds on to him tightly is etched in my memory. It tugged at my heart; it is a memory of the heart . It is a loving moment illustrating what Shakespeare's Juliet calls "true love's passion". When someone saves you from the worst and catches you in their arms just in time that is love. I feel their bond as well.

Alice realizes that and when she leaps and joins Uncas in death to avoid a fate worse than death with Magua, she knows she will be reunited with Uncas on the other side. And for how many more lifetimes after that?

Great observation, English Trader! I also noticed these two scenes. There are two more scenes that show the bond between Uncas and Alice that I don't think many people notice either. One is when they arrive in the cave behind the waterfall, Uncas runs to Alice and holds her hand to help her get down the slope in the cave. They hold hands for quite awhile and Alice seems comfortable with it. The other scene is when Uncas pulls Alice back from the waterfall and holds her, Alice also holds Uncas tightly with her arms. That is also very telling. Even though they don't have a big love scene, I feel their strong bond.

One of my favorite scenes that you have to look REALLY closely to see is after they have canoed in the dark to the fort and are coming up the steep slope to the sally port by torchlight: Uncas very clearly has his hand under Alice's arm to help her up the climb in her gown. I don't think many people see it. I think it is very telling. The other key scene for me, more than the cut scene under the waterfall, is when they are hiding from the French at the burial ground. She creeps forward, then he grabs her and holds her tight. For a gently bred English girl who probably knew no more of a man than his hand on hers, having that arm around her and feeling that body surely must have set her skin on fire. I think THAT was pivotal, but again I think most people miss it because they look for "modern" passion and forget to think about 18thC sensibilities.

I'm an Uncas-Alice fan through-and-through.

YHOS,
English Trader

I love uncas/alice couple I'm sure that alice and uncas loved each other. I'm very disppointed that michael mann cut the love scene in the cave of the original version or that he decided to not show this scene on the DVD version because this scene explain everything. And I think that we'll never see this scene.

I thought the Uncas/Alice relationship was absolutely beautiful, haunting and tragic. Why oh why was it not more developed!!!??? Eric Sweig (uncas) played whatever he was given incredibly soulfully as did Jodhi May (alice). A claasic through and through.

Fans write stories about their favorite characters--new adventures, etc. You can even include yourself as a character.

I am a bit slow today...can someone please tell me what fan fiction is?
DIENSIEG.HSU Posted - July 12 2003 : 11:03:05 AM
actually thanks for the plot, uncas and alice would live forever in the fan's memory because their haunting tragedy. forever means unfinish story.

The Uncas/Alice story is also my favorite part of the movie. I hope they live happily togather in the Mohican version of Paradise.
