Posted - June 05 2006 : 11:55:03 PM First let's get the not-so-good news out of the way. I had a call from John Harkins tonight saying that he would not be able to make the Gathering. Apparently he fell down some steps in the rain and broke a couple of ribs and hurt his arm as well. He was very much looking forward to the Nolichucky trip, but that would NOT be a good thing to do with broken ribs. He said he might try to come to the movie on Saturday night and the cookout on Sunday, so we might get to see him for a bit. In the meantime, send healing thoughts and prayers his way! Even after all that, John mentioned that he was putting in the mail an item for Ariel's Auction. Thanks, John! If you would like to send John a get-well card or call him, please contact me privately. He does not have email.
Now, for the GOOD news! In the fall of 2004, devastating storms tore through much of the Southeast, including western NC. The Linville area was particularly hard hit with flooding and downed trees, and some of us were afraid that our special tree at the scene of the George Rd. Ambush would be gone. It was half fallen over anyway. But, here it is, the same as always...

I took that picture on Sunday, and would you believe it was chilly, maybe about 60 to 65 degrees at about 5pm. Hard to believe for June! Stephanie |
