StudiGroup President, Carter Ard [first-timer], gets Wes Studi on a cell phone from the Top of the Falls. Wes answered, was his usual cordial self, and we all managed to whoop & holler in the background.
Interesting.
All's gone fine, so far. No casualties, yet ... Here I go. |

Let me get this straight, he believes we're a cult? What like "Children Of The Corn" or something?
I will say that some people have thought and posted the darnest things over the years, but this one is a doozy.
HAHAHA! Count me in!

Posted - July 07 2004 : 3:08:02 PM Hey there, m’ friends!!
It’s good to hear that each of the various Gathering folks are making it home, safe and sound! Thought I’d just put a few thoughts on paper ~
1) I’M SO PLEASED TO HEAR THAT YOU GOT YOUR KEYS BACK, CHRISTINA!!! That’s just GREAT! Those folks at Cherokee are wonderful, to get them to you so quickly, knowing how concerned your were. That’s what I call a generous spirit!
2) I too had the dreaded lurgy (That’s the Scottish euphemism for anything that has you stopping at every pit stop between here and timbuctu!) for awhile! I was fine until I got to Chimney Rock – and then… I just assumed that it was the different water. Well… you know how they always tell you when you go travelling, to ‘beware the local water’… and so, I put it down to that. NO – I’m not saying yer water’s BAD! But the composition of chemicals is different to ours… and you just get USED TO… oh, you know what I mean. I’m sure it was a bug – not a DANGEROUS bug but… obviously very contagious! However, I do hope everyone has recovered/is recovering nicely, from THAT little… bug… It didn't seem to stop anyone doing what they wanted to do - that's the main thing!
3) As to Michael Williams dissertation, well, it was… interesting! I can’t say that I’d really THOUGHT about many of those points he made (which is no great surprise, all things considered! ) And though, I didn’t agree with many of his ideas, but I HAVE TO SAY – I found HIS take on the subject very interesting!! 4) Yes Patrick, I agree!! The Gathering is SURELY a special time for greeting ‘old’ friends and for hugging and saying ‘hey’ to those sweet folks from the Board whom we didn’t know previously!! And I want to say that it was GREAT having you and Ariel as travelling buddies – and getting to know both of YOU a little better!! Thanks for your company!
5) I have to say - it was also terrific to get to know Russell and Pearl Means! It was terrific the way they mingled and moved among everyone and got to talking with whoever they happened to be standing beside. Pearl was a real sweetheart!! She bought Raffle tickets and WHOOPED WITH DELIGHT when she won!!! Not only that, she took the time to actively seek me out to tell me JUST HOW PLEASED SHE WAS with the article she won! Now THAT was a NICE thing to do!!! I have to admit… before the Gathering, I let things I’d heard, and articles I’d read, form my opinion about Russell Means. But I was wrong to do that. I should have done what I usually do – meet the person and form MY OWN opinion about someone. HOWSEVER, Russell has paid me back BIG TIME! He has set me a… challenging task and to pay penance (which I deserve to do!) – but mostly because I thought he and Pearl were SO DARNED NICE, I’ll do what I can to help him. And… I sincerely hope that he and Pearl have taken home as many nice memories as we have!
6) I’m thinking the ONE OF THE HIGHTLIGHTS of my Gathering has got to be FINALLY seeing the location of ‘The Elk Hunt/Tracking the War Party’!!! As some folks can testify, I have tried and TRIED to make it to that location – only to have the chance disappear before my eyes each time! Well… THIS TIME I MADE I |

Posted - July 07 2004 : 05:19:45 AM Great picture, Nathan!!! Thanks for that!
Regarding Michael Williams ... he sends out a "Vacation Journal" newsletter to his friends & for some reason, I am one of the recipients. He's on a 4-weeker. When he's done, perhaps I'll post some thoughts. Till then, I feel he regards us as a "cult" ... literally. Oh well ... Perhaps I misjudge.
I, too, enjoyed his presentation, and re-reading through his hand-out this past weekend. |

Posted - July 06 2004 : 10:11:51 PM You know, I asked Michael Williams on Saturday at the Mohican Games how his views about the Gathering had changed now that he had actually attended one. He said he wasn't sure, that he would need to mull it over. I believe he and his family were heading to Mexico after leaving Mohicanland, so I'm not sure when he will be returning home. Hopefully we will hear from him, though. I'd like to know what he thought, too. His presentation was very interesting, I thought. I really enjoyed it and it got me to thinking about a lot of things. Posted - July 06 2004 : 9:07:44 PM I'd be very interested in hearing about Michael Williams' journey into Mohicanland -- theory meeting reality, I guess. Did he express his thoughts on the Gathering? |

Posted - July 03 2004 : 09:32:46 AM Hey Nathan and family! Nice to hear from you on the board and glad to know you made it home safely. I can't wait to see the picture of your cabin!!! That is so cool and I am just in awe that you have done that. Now Theresa, watch out with the cute nicknames and such! I'd hate to have to push you off Magua Rock at CRP (you AND the Sweetsers!!!!) Just kidding! Kathy, it would be so great to meet the rest of your family. If they are anything like David and Nathan, then you have done an excellent job as a parent (Mark, too!). Nathan is always such a joy to have around and I'm so glad David was able to join us this year as well. Love, Stephanie |

Posted - July 02 2004 : 11:08:14 PM Hey Nathan...cutie patootie!
Glad you found you way here, too. As I told many at the Gathering this year, it's so refreshing to see young folk enjoying something like this...and enjoying it with their family. A rare thing.
I loved your story your mom shared with us. AND...I look forward to seeing that thar log cabin of yourn, too. Stay in touch. Tell your mom and dad hello...and David, too! |

Posted - July 02 2004 : 10:47:00 PM Hi all!
Well I'm glad that I was finally able to register and actually be able to sign on and post. It's a good feeling.
I had a blast this year... I never wanted it to end. It really is a great thing to be able to go somewhere besides here and be myself, do what I enjoy, talk about what I love, with a group of friends that don't think I'm a little bit off the wall.
So how is everybody? I'm hoping sometime soon to be able to get a picture of my little log cabin up on the board for you guys to see. (It's not even finished yet). I really enjoyed seeing you all again this year and getting to spend some more time with you and getting to know you more. I honestly don't think I'd trade it for anything. I love it!!!

Posted - July 02 2004 : 08:04:06 AM Yeh, I do remember the Yip-Yip Martians conversation, not because I was involved, because I was driving back from Asheville with Christina, Ariel, and Kate. Got to much involved with listening, got lost while driving back to the Geneva. I think it took an extra 45 minutes to get back. Regarding the Fashion Doll, I collect Navaho and Hopi kachina doll - probably have about 12 total. I also have a few cornhusk dolls as well. I thought it would be a perfect compliment. I would say the best thing for the Gathering for me was really getting to know people real well and call them all close friends.
With Honor,

Posted - July 02 2004 : 07:57:10 AM Hey Kathy!
Good to hear you guys are home safe and sound. Sorry 'bout the bug...I somehow managed to miss out on that so I know it wasn't the food as I had plenty of it...probably more than I sould have.
David is a sweetheart and I'm so glad you brought him. Happy to know he enjoyed himself. Maybe you can make it a complete family trip sometime, we'd love that.
I was so moved my Nathan's story and am truly impressed with the log cabin project. Someday he's gonna make some sweet thang mighty happy.
Lovely to see you and Mark again and to be able to spend more time with you...one of the luxuries of a long Gathering I suppose. |

Posted - July 01 2004 : 11:17:42 PM Well, the Whitney's made it home as well. Just getting around to taking the time to post. Add one more victim to the bug. I didn't think we would ever get home. Thankfully the bathrooms along the way were plentiful!!!! We had an awesome time this year ( as usual ) thanks to many of you who made David feel so welcome as a first timer. Now, many of you know that Nathan is NOT an only child. Far from it in fact. My dream is to bring all of my daughters one day since they are older and knew of our movie long ago. Maybe some day. It was good to get to know some of you better, it seems more like family every time we get together. As Eric said at the movie, we are quite a family. Eric and Sharon I sure hope you are able to stop our way when you are in the area. We are so excited ..... Sharon, hope things went well for you on Tuesday. Well, it is way late for me to be up so here's to another great Mohican Gathering, may the next one be even sweeter! Hello Sweetser's! Kathy |

Posted - July 01 2004 : 10:47:00 PM Well, folks, Stan and I have been reading all the posts-this being the first time we have checked it since getting home on Monday evening. We were also hit by the "bug" around 4 am Sunday morning, so our last day of vacation was spent in the RV moaning and groaning. Stan managed to buy the last bottle of medicine in Chimney Rock or Lake Lure. Apparently, the bug was hitting many in town. Well, enough of that.
The 2004 Gathering was a great one for us in spite of the rain. We enjoyed everyone's company and I especially enjoyed the Nolichucky this year, if you can believe that.
Cherie, we finally activated voice mail on our new cells and got your message!

Posted - July 01 2004 : 7:34:04 PM Good to know you made it back safely, Ariel. Seems that you gave off some good-luck vibes to Christina while riding with her throughout the week...I figure with you meeting Russell the morning of the movie presentation must have rubbed off on Christina and gave her the opportunity to have dinner with him up close and personal...good job!! |

Posted - July 01 2004 : 6:51:58 PM Ariel, glad to see you made it back safely! I hope your girlfriend enjoys LOTM!!! Meanwhile, watch out for the Yip Yip martians! (for those of you who were not in our car coming back from the whitewater trip, you will NOT understand what is happening here...) Kate and Patrick will know what we are talking about. |

Posted - July 01 2004 : 6:02:40 PM Hi all! Got back to Washington DC Fri evening--in pouring rain
It has been nice this week, though...
I'm working on a Holocaust database data search relevance judgment thingie for summer job...tedious yet meaningful and moving.
Christina: WONDERFUL that you got your keys!!!
I'll be in touch.
It's my girlfriend's birthday today, and we MIGHT end up watching LOTM...would be her first time; Hope she enjoys it!
Be well all, and especially best wishes to Rich.

Posted - July 01 2004 : 5:11:07 PM Great news on your keys, Christina. I didn't know of the "locked-in-the-car" incident at the concert, though. Seems that syndrome runs in Diana's family...might be contagious, too, because at the un-Gathering I left mine on a bathroom stall hook.
All those we came in contact with in Cherokee were absolutely wonderful. It's no wonder of their thoroughness and generosity in returning the keys. I'm sure the address of the museum is somewhere, you could drop them a thank you note or something.
Looking forward to your Dinner with Russell account...please include all personalities there as I could never grow tired of your Flip description. |

Posted - July 01 2004 : 1:06:38 PM Stephanie, sorry I haven't been on board yet to report on the dinner with Ching and post some of my MANY pictures from the Great Gathering...BOTH of my computers are functioning as if they're being run by an energy source hooked up to a tired gerbil on a rusty wheel, so longer updates will be delayed slightly!!! BUT -- update on the keys -- YES, I got my keys back, Steph! I was despairing on ever seeing them again after finding out on Sunday nobody had found them at either the Cherokee museum or the theater, but I left my address with a nice guy at the admissions desk anyway. Well, guess what was in my mail yesterday??? MY KEYS...sent in a big, nice padded envelope from the Cherokee museum AND wrapped in at least three layers of bubble wrap and tape to keep them safe...all I can say is those are some NICE guys to send them and so well shipped. I want to hire the guy who shipped 'em to help me with my Ebay shipping! For those of you who don't know why the keys are an issue: I fell victim not once but TWICE to the annual "Mohican Gathering Key Curse" in which you either lock your keys in the car or lose them! I did BOTH ...locked em in the Jeep at the Joanne concert on Tuesday and then LOST em at Cherokee...BUT I was fortunate and had a spare pair so I was never left without transportation! I wish I knew who was responsible for finding em at Cherokee and shipping them so nicely...the guy deserves a batch of cookies or something! Christina |

Posted - June 30 2004 : 6:43:17 PM Hey Stephanie and all, Here is the "vision" that I like to see when we go to Tahlequah. He has a beautiful smile. The woman in the picture with him is a very dear friend of mine. She was supposed to go to the Gathering with me this year, but unfortunately, her health wouldn't permit it. I would love to see your "vision of tallness", so make sure to go to SOTR and take pictures!!!

What blonde-haired lady?
Well a Gathering casualty: I knew I had a muffler problem and was putting off having it repaired because it wasn't TOO loud yet. Saturday at the games I, er, made an attempt at 4-wheelin' in my little car that thinks it's a jeep. Anyway, I *thought* I heard something scrape the bottom and later it sounded like I was driving a WWII bomber. Yep, had to get a new muffler! Oh well, needed it anyway, but my off-road driving just made me have to repair it sooner! The funny thing is: after the man repaired it, he looked at me sorta funny and asked, "did you run over something?"
I also want to say a big thank you to Wilderness Woman, who sent
Hey Stephanie!
The muffler just "muffles" sound. I do not think it is an essential part of the car like for example the brakes.

Sorry to hear about your car, Steph. I ran into a torrential rain driving through Atlanta...did a pretty good job of washing all the mud from my wheels and such.
