Posted - June 24 2003 : 9:17:22 PM After a long day the Longhunter Wannabees head to Spirits on the River for dinner. Rich, being the quintessential Father Gatherer that he is - pulls enough REAL Mohican flags from his car for us to "'tend like" we're at a REAL Gathering! No prizes this year for best shot, or best hawk throw, and THANK YOU LORD no foot races...Just the warm fuzzies one feels whenever fellow MohicanLanders get together!!

Posted - June 30 2003 : 8:02:09 PM Hi Everyone! I am making my first ever post under threat of bodily harm from Gadget Girl . I had a LARGE time at the 6th Gathering. Wish you were there!! We had the best time doing the UN-thing – It was a hoot! It was really nice to spend some leisure time with some close buds and making new friends at the French Broads place ! Here’s an idea – if you can’t wait until the next gathering (that would be the 7th)– some of us are taking a road trip to Jackson, Mississippi to see the Sweet Potato Queens in their St. Patrick’s Day Parade . We have recruits already from this year’s gathering. If you don’t make it – I’ll see y’all in June!
Whew – finally got that posting monkey off my back – not to mention Gadget Girl!
Love ya guys!! Gear Gal – aka Cecelia

Adele, you would've died if you'd been there! We enlisted a wonderful little couple from Wisconsin to take our "insert yourself" pictures. They took a picture of their own to remember the "crazy ladies" they met in NC. We were finally viewing the images on the camera on the way down the mountain on that bus ride (that HORRIBLE bus ride) and we could hardly breathe we were laughing so hard. We were definitely getting some looks from others on the bus!
It was a great weekend! CR is just the best place to hang with buds, ya know? . After going up to the park for the day on Saturday, we ate at one of the restaurants that has a deck that overlooks the Rocky Broad River (quite loud this weekend), then meandered through one shop after another in the village until we were about to drop. Then we went back to the Geneva and sat on the deck of the WONDERFUL West apartment, listened to the river, put on our jackets it was so chilly that evening, made margaritas and laughed and laughed and laughed. Fun as it was, we missed all the other gatherers though!
See ya next June, Girlie!?????
Oh...I am a'hoping...and a'wishin...

Posted - June 26 2003 : 01:59:33 AM Diana....what a scream! Thanks for all your pictures and the video too, it helped make up a little for not being there.
Hearing you on the video and seeing the pics (of you and Cecilia in particular) reminded me so much of my first gathering - a trip into the unknown!
Wonderful shots - I particularly liked the 'Insert Yourself Here' pics - omg, I was laughing at those!

Posted - June 25 2003 : 3:09:12 PM Thanks so much, GG, for sharing all of the great pictures and stories about the ungathering. Thanks also to the rest of the ungatherers for their input about the weekend. Seeing what a good time you all had helps to make up for the fact that I couldn't be there myself. Sure am looking forward to seeing you all next year. Karen

Posted - June 25 2003 : 12:12:01 PM Gadget girl's reports are GREAT! This was an AMAZINGLY FUN weekend ... getting together with old friends, seeing old and new Mohican sites, walking through crowded places wearing glowing mailbox numbers on my shirt, shooting muskets, what more could you ask for??? I do have one thing to say however...do not believe the picture of me standing with the crowd outside the Grove Park Inn. I do NOT have pointed ears...I swear, I am NOT a vulcan or a runaway Christmas elf. What a great weekend, guys! Wouldn't have missed it for the world!!!

Posted - June 25 2003 : 10:44:50 AM I almost forgot! I would be remiss if I didn't take the opportunity to thank Lainey for her willingness to share Rich with us Sunday, especially since there was a third birthday party taking place. Thanks, Elaine! |

Posted - June 24 2003 : 10:11:47 PM As we were leaving the Grove Park, someone yells to us, and lo and behold it's Dale and his Mom and Dad (such fun folks his parents!).

We explain that we had just been to the Manor Inn and had no luck whatsoever finding any semblance of Webb's office. Dale explained we had been to THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BUILDING! He offered to "Show us the way"!! Ohhhhhh, it's around BACK of the Manor Inn. None of us remembered Rich imparting that little detail. He had said it was now locked, it was, but DALE...aiming ever to please...walks around and finds a door open and comes and lets us in!! What a GUY!!!! DEFINITELY, right away you know you are in Webb's office!

Dale offers to show us one more bit of LOTM trivia. We go to Fuddrucker's, just down Charlotte Street from the Manor Inn. Inside we find a pizza plate signed by Wes Studi.... How'd you find that Dale??

NOW...we go back to Chimney Rock, sit up late chatting about fresh new Mohican born memories and buzzing about the plans for and possibilities of when we are together again next year!! See ya there!!

HAVE YOU SIGNED UP YET?????? |

Posted - June 24 2003 : 10:01:49 PM Before heading back to Chimney Rock and saying goodbye to Asheville, we made a quick run up to see if we could get a feeling for General Webb's office at The Manor (now The Manor Inn Apartments). We drove up IN FRONT of The Manor. Theresa and I got out and peered in windows, ran up walks and paths to peer in other windows - NOTHING. Rich had said - "You'll recognize it right away with the columns and all...". Nope, NADA, Zip - Oh Well, Grove Park Inn was just around the corner, lets run up there real quick...
Here we have the New and Renovated Louise's Rock House!

OH NOOOOOoooooooooo! Looks like Louise IS NOT happy to find we didn't visit this year. 3 UN-Gatherers are immediately seized, shrunken, and made ready to be roasted. Louise walked away cackling and announcing..."UN-Gatherers...IT'S WHAT'S FOR DINNER!" Theresa was last seen clicking her fluorescent tennis shoe heels together saying, "There's no place like home, There's no place like home"!

Posted - June 24 2003 : 9:32:45 PM After waiting to be seated, we found the deck at Smoke on the Water, as Cecelia called it, packed with people. Again it was the shoulder to shoulder experience of sardines in a can, just like last year. The food WAS AGAIN outstanding and all six of us split a Fried Bread with Ice Cream and Berries - Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! We sat for 3 HOURS remembering Gatherings past, old friends, new friends, board happenings, and possibilities for future gatherings. A very mellow ending to a perfect day...

Before leaving we turned over to Rich the proceedings of this year's raffle to help offset next year's expenses!
