I was just wondering if there is anyone out there in Mohicanland who is a fan of this Pittsburgh-based artist who has depicted many superb images of the French and Indian War and the colonial period.

In fact this website uses an image of his One Mile from Bushy Run Station on the main message board for one of the forums.

I am from Pittsburgh originally and have followed his work for over a decade. I own five of his prints and am soon going to buy his latest, which is due out this month.

Yes, if all goes well, I will! Hope to see you there, Mary!
Seamus Posted - April 02 2007 : 08:04:47 AM
Thanks, Mary, for the link. I knew I had seen it, but I had no idea where.....duuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh! Yes, he looked just like that at that age, and the gun is exactly like one of mine!

Rain or no, come on over...and bring that fellow with you. I haven't seen him in ages. WW will be with us.

What a great thing to do for the grandkids, Seamus! Here's a link for "The Homecoming":

Peyton is a fine-looking boy, if he looks like that youngster.

Thanks for reminding me of the dates of History Meets the Arts. I'm planning to attend, barring the kind of drenching rainstorm we had last year.

Those pictures have a great story behind them. It's true that we shouldn't judge yesterday's actions by todays norms. Nothing more than self-serving for those that enjoy that sort of thing. I'm sure your grandchildren with enjoy those gifts all their lives.

I buy each of my grandchildren an 18th century life picture at birth. This is the one I bought my first one....a granddaughter who is now 12:

This the second...also a girl, now 9:

Numbers 3 1nd 4 received Teter prints, posters, made specifically for History Meets the Arts at Gettysburg, of a small child with a party of Indians along a stream, sitting in the grass takinga break from some heavy canoeing. Off to one side the child and an Indian warrior are captivating each other. I don't have a link to it, sorry. Number 5 got a Pamela Patrick White image, which looks just like him! It's called "The Homecoming"....depicts a woodsman who has obviously been on the trail, holding an infant son aloft and they are looking at each other. There's a log cabin wall as the background. No link here, either.

Great link Rich, - that "Susquehanna" by Lee Teter is Magua plain as day.

Hey BW!! Are you coming to G'bg this year, April 13-15? We will be there with the Village Restorations exhibit in the fire hall yard again, garrisoning another blockhouse and doing talks and demos.

My husband and I are devoted fans also, thanks to Seamus' influence. We own a print, "Late Arrivals," and a poster of "Unconquered" (originally it said "Eastern Colonial Art" or some such title below the painting, but we had the framers remove that -- never liked framed artwork with words on it). We also have the book, signed by Mr. Griffing at Gettysburg's History Meets the Arts in 2004. Great reading AND gazing!

I have works of all three, including an original Buxton pencil sketch of me,done after an event a few years ago at the Daniel Boone Homestead.

Teter's portfolio of Indians is magnificent! There are handcolored prints of 12 different natives with accompanying sketches and text explaining each. There were 100 done originally, and are hard to find these days. I do not recall what number mine is.

In my book, there are none better than these 3 fellows!

Some of his work can be seen HERE, along with stuff from Lee Teter & John Buxton. Beautiful imagery!

Some REALLY good stuff, - to say the least.

Thass the one, MoGuide.

This Robert Griffing? ...http://www.oldgloryprints.com/Griffing%20Limited%20Edition.htm
Seamus Posted - March 31 2007 : 2:54:55 PM
Yes, Pike...that was my thought when I first saw it. Do you have his book? If not, you SHOULD get it.
Obediah Posted - March 31 2007 : 2:43:24 PM
I just discovered RG (on the Internet) about a year about...man, his work is great! He does for the F&IW what Don Troiani does for the ACW.
Pike Bishop Posted - March 31 2007 : 1:56:57 PM
Great to hear Seamus.

Tell Mr. Griffing that his number one fan in Texas says hi. He signed my print of "Bushy Run Station" for me at a showing '96 or so at that gallery out near Murrysville.

I asked him to personalize it and he smiled and said, "No, for your sake I won't, that'll decrease it in value."

Tell me that new Fort Pitt one coming out is not breathtaking. Its almost "In the Shadow of the King" Part II
Seamus Posted - March 31 2007 : 1:49:57 PM
I know Mr. Griffing, personally, and own a number of his works....including his first four issues, low numbers. In my book, they don't come any better as a person nor as an artist of our period.

I will be seeing him in about 2 weeks.
