At this weekend's Camp at Carlisle, where I had the great pleasure of meeting Joyce, I also purchased a calendar for 2007 entitled "Back Country Visages." It's published by the Depreciation Lands Museum of western PA -- www.DepreciationLandsMuseum.org -- and benefits that worthy organization. The calendar is black and white, the illustrations consist of photos of reenactors in various settings and artwork by John Griffing, John Buxton, and Fred Threlfall, and the calendar pages are done in colonial style lettering. Along with the usual holidays, dates important to reenactors and others of like mind are also noted (e.g., Custaloga Town, Fort Frederick, Pennsylvania's flintlock deer season). Things like this which illustrate our period (as opposed to the western fur trade, for example) aren't easy to find, in my experience, so I'm mentioning this calendar here in case anyone else might be interested. |

Bookworm showed me the calendar she purchased, and it is indeed beautiful! It is well laid out and the photos and graphics are very evocative of the period portrayed.
It would be well worth the $12.00 and you would be helping out a good cause.
Think I'll order one.....
