and running again. Seems our server messed something up? But I
just wanted to let everyone know that new pics are being added

Just wanted to mention that we're getting our 2008 calender of
events started on our website, with hopefully more to be added.
Just ckilck on the calender to check it out. The one's marked
in Blue are the events we'll be performing at in 2008.

Yes, check out the new logo my new found friend, Mr. Wade Dillon has done for me!!! I'm very impressed with not only Wade's abilities on the computer, but also his knowlege of the Texas History around the 1836 time period, and the history of everyone involved before, during, and after the fall of the Alamo. Keep up the good work Wade. I'm proud to call you my friend.

If I had the money I'd be there for sure. 'Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter' aired on my 8th birthday with Fess Parker, and I could'a cared less about that birthday cause I saw David Crockett (LOL). I was just enthralled, and it was Fess Parker set me off on a journey of the study of David Crockett, Jim Bowie, the Alamo, and later on to Boonesborough and the history of the Middle Ground. It's humbling to say the least, and I've met many enthusiasts along my journey, some like you who are learning everything you can about a certain era in time, others who try to encompass several time periods, and then there are my types that have to change periods since we are getting older and are portraying actual historical figures, such as Simon & Betsy Kenton in later years. Kenton died in April 1836 right after the Alamo fell. Check this out, 5th row down: http://www.fessparker.com/html/the_shooting_gallery.html (LOL) and then the row under my pic is my dear friend Muggs Jones who is completeing our Kenton DVD as we speak, I hope. Nancy just found this and said this might be the best way to get hold of Mark or his wife. Ask your questions in a letter and he'll write back. That's how I 1st contacted Mark, and we've seen each other several times since. His address is:

I had sent a photo of myself and had asked him to critique me. Only thing was Mark wouldn't tell me I was wrong in wearing a neck knife, but he was so positive and then he asked where I'd found my documentation for whites wearing neck knives in the Kentucke Frontier? This is what showed me Mark's abilities as a very good teacher. He got me to do the research and it showed me that white men, unless they were renegades, didn't wear them. Henry Bouquette once wrote in his journals that he 'admired the way the Indians wore their knives, around the neck.' That was all I could find! So I quit wearing a neck knife, shaved my mustache after 20 some years of law enforcement, and then had to put up with laughing from my wife. She told me at 1st, "Grow it back, you look like a bulldog!!!" (LOL) Oh well, I wanted to be more authentic, so there! (LOL, again) Any ways, try writing Mark and I'll bet he answers. He's been very busy for the last couple of years with his new book, and then I'm sure with trying to get his newer copy of 'Sons of a Trackless Forest' re-released. Hope you don't think I'm trying to put you off on calling Mark. Most of the time you won't catch him at home anyways, and when he is at home he and his wife need it for them. His wife is so very nice, they are both the kind of folks most want to call their friends. Write or call me anytime if you have questions, because you sound very sincere in your questions. Remember one thing Wade, in your quest for knowledge you will meet those who try and be the know all, be all. Don't pay any attention, but when you find the humble man who tells you where you can find the information you need, then make him your mentor, or guide to the knowlege you seek.

Hey Mike. That's fine and completely understood. Would it be any trouble to ask Mark yourself? I know Gary is very busy at the moment with Alamo related projects and I wouldn't want to disturb him at this time.

P.S. Mike, what reenactments do you usually take part in? I will be taking part in the Battle of the Alamo reenactment in San Antonio, Texas for the 2nd time in March! It'll be my second time participating in one as well. I'm ecstatic! |

I'll checkout the forum!
As for Gary Foreman, I'm well aquainted with him, having finally met him in San Antonio, Texas in March earlier this year and I talk with him on the phone often! He's a great guy. Full of Alamo knowledge!
Regarding Mr.Baker, I'd like to interview him regarding his part in "Boone and Crockett" for my website, Alamo Sentry. I agree, he was the spitting image of Crockett! Know how I may get in touch with him?

Greetings Wade. Yep, Mark knows a lot about flintlocks, but so do many of us. I've been shooting one since 1958 (oops, gives away I'm an old geezer, as Light would say) (LOL). Mind if I ask what it is you'd like to know? And I hope I'm not doing wrong here, but I also belong to another board called TMA (Traditional Muzzleloading Association) board. http://www.traditionalmuzzleloadingassociation.com/forum/phpbb2/index.php
It's a lot of guys that know much about shooting Flinlock and/or Percussion Rifle guns. By the way, I thought Mark was the spittin' image of Crockett in the one portrait. Jim Dreesler also looked a lot like old Daniel Boone as well. If you ever get a chance Wade, try and meet Gary Foreman and Caroline Rains who made the movies of "Boone and Crockett, Hunter Heroes" and also "Carson and Cody, Hunter Heroes." Folks cannot sit with Gary for 5-10 minutes without getting all fired up about history. His love for it is truly contagious.

I saw on your website a photo of you with Mark Baker, who played David Crockett in Boone and Crockett: Hunter Heroes. I'd love to be able to contact him. I understand he knows alot about flintlocks as well.

Mike, this is a bit off topic, but I wanted to ask you something. Are you pictured in Beth Gilgun's book "Tidings From the 18th Century?" There is a gentleman in her book, in a couple of photos, who looks like he could be you... a few years back. Yes? |
