to be Keynote Speaker at 29th Annual Kalamazoo Living History Show™
March 20-21, 2004
Annual event to attract interest from throughout the Midwest
Ted Franklin Belue will present the following programs giving us an insight into the Woodland Indians and early pioneers that settled, “America’s First Frontier: 1750-1792,” the area between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River:
• “The Hunters of Kentucky: America’s First Far West, 1750-1792” • “Indian-Influenced Woodsmen of the Frontier”
Ted Franklin Belue is Senior Lecturer at Murray State University. Ted was the primary film consultant and on-air commentator for the History Channel's summer 2001 release of "Boone & Crockett: The Hunter-Heroes." In July 2002, "Boone & Crockett" was given the A & E network's highest honor as best History Channel documentary for 2001, an award seconded by the Western Writer's of America as the year's best history documentary. Belue is author of "The Long Hunt: Death of the Buffalo East of the Mississippi" (1996), "A Sketch of the Life and Character of Daniel Boone" (1997) and of Lyman C. Draper's landmark biography, "The Life of Daniel Boone" (1998).
All three books were nominated for the Kentucky Governor's Award and the last called by "Publishers Weekly," "a treasure trove of Early Americana." Belue's newest publication, "The Hunters of Kentucky: A Narrative History of America's First Far West, 1750 1792," (2003) tells of the sweep of human tide infiltrating the middle ground and was nominated for the Western Writers of America's Spur Award for Best Historical Non Fiction. Multi Pulitzer Prize nominee and well-known author, Allan W. Eckert, deemed it to be “one of the most remarkable books on the Kentucky frontier ever penned”.
