This is to all of you that signed up for the "do not call" law.
This week I received a card in the mail that looked all right-- It said "vote for your favorite cola - Pepsi or Coke- and receive a complementary 12 pack" It didn't look suspicious--but for some reason I kept looking at it. THEN I FOUND IT !!
At the bottom of the card there is a VERY small statement. It is SO small it is hard to read--but here is what it says---- "By completing this form, you agree that sponsors and co-sponsors of this offer may telephone you, even if your number is found on a do not call registry or list " This REALLY upset me and I just wanted all my friends to be aware of this way to get around the "do not call" law !! Just think how many people will send this in and their do not call registry will be NO GOOD !! The company's name is MARKET SOLUTION. Please send this to all your friends that signed up for " do not call." I think this is just one of what we will get in the future--so READ EVERYTHING before you SIGN AND SEND !!
AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT!!!! PLEASE !!!

Thanks for the heads up Hawkeye Joe. We are on the list, but still get bombarded with the calls. Never signed anything either. Can't understand it. It's sad that there has to be such sneaky tactics in todays world.
Thanks again.

Well, I am glad that it appears to be a hoax. However, let's not breathe too big a sigh of relief. I followed the link that Joe posted and here is part of what that site says:

"Comments: I've not been able to verify that the cola giveaway described above actually exists, but the email alert is worth heeding in any case, given that similar legal language now appears in the rules and conditions of other promotional contests and giveaways. Though it's inaccurate to label it a "scam," such provisions are apparently designed to take advantage of loopholes in the law behind the anti-telemarketing Do Not Call Registry."

The key words here are "worth heeding" because, rest assured, someone will come up with a way around the law. Unfortunately.

I say thanks, HJ, for opening our eyes a bit wider just when we thought we were safe!

No harm done, Hawk.

Frankly, when I first read your post the syntax struck me as strange, but I figured this must be a pet peeve.

That last bit:

AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT!!!! PLEASE !!!

should have been a dead giveaway.

I guess I'm just a little irritated with myself for not having picked it up.

I realize I posted it as something that had actually happened to me and not as an e-mail warning I received, I posted it here first and didn't change it as I had changed it on other forums and message boards I posted it onto indicate that it was something I got from someone else....that's one reason I followed up with the update on it. I appologize if this has caused you any personal injury or inconvienence.

Bill, I don't think pop-ups generally swipe your email address, though some are malicious. In any event, they are very annoying.

If you want to stop them, there are a number of programs that will do so.

My solution is the current version of the Google toolbar. I love Google anyway, and have been using the toolbar for a long while. It's great to have the search feature right there whenever you want it, and the no pop-up feature has worked perfectly for me (you have to enable it).

In wisconsin, the ONLY calls allowed to be made are by charitable orgs and political orgs. Period. There is no loophole for "having an ongoing relationship with a business". I did just put our number on the Gov list also. Interesting though......go to that info site, and three pop-ups reared their ugly heads. Now, I imagine, three more spammers have my email address and info. Guess I'll be getting MORE crap in my mailbox for viagra, prescription drugs, life insurance, investment opportunities yadda yadda yadda. Go to an info site on do not call, and get your info ripped off for more spamming. Ain't this country great? Free enterprise. Yeah. What they need is a federal law prohibiting spamming - unsolicited email for "products". THAT would really be something worthwhile. Think of the enormous increase in productivity ISP's and WE would have without spam. Think about the resources it takes world wide to have millions of spam emails going through servers wasting computer resources. And when viruses are attached to that spam, as has recently been done, we are talking billions of dollars in effort and resources wasted in coping with it that would be unnecessary if spam was outlawed.

The thing is, Hawk, you presented this information as if it were coming from you personally, with no indication it was something you received or picked up elsewhere.

Hi Wade,
They used to call us all of the time too, and I hated being rude, so before we got on the no call list, we had a telezapper. It is a neat phone attachment and you press a little button when you find out that it is a telemarketer, and it politely tells them that this household doesn't accept these calls and to please take this number off of their list. it is something to think about if you get alot of annoying calls!!!

Love,
Kay

Well,my number isn't on the list, but good luck to everyone else. These people call us to buy something right when we're busy and they always piss me off (excuse my french)

Again,good luck,
Wade

Thanks Hawk. My number is on the "do not call" list, and this would really make me mad if they got by this list through a loophole. I will make sure to send this to all of my friends and family.

Love,
Kay

There's a combination of words for people like that, but I won't repeat it here. Thanks for the head's up. I wonder how sleazes like marketing company jerks sleep at night.
