Posted - October 29 2004 : 8:55:50 PM Hello there. I am in sooo much pain right now! I recieved gum surgery today and I don't remember ever being so soar. I have been crying all day because one; my lips are huge, and two: my mouth hurts beyond belief! My friend Jilli was over and she was "taking care of me" as she likes to put it..lol, but failed to help me much. Then it dawned on me, I bet a visit to the Mohican Board would make me feel a tad better. I got surgery today to remove a muscle by my two front teeth. They told me since I was getting my braces off soon they would have to removie the muscle or else it would just seperate my teeth again. I'm very sad and hurting badly. Anyone there have any advice to brighten my day or have any ideas to help the pain? My orthopedic surgeon gave me some things, but they have failed to help at all. Thanks guys!

Posted - November 08 2004 : 5:07:25 PM Hey! This is Christina. I'm sorry I didn't see this thread before now...I really hope you start feeling better. I've had mouth surgery four times related to orthodontic stuff so I FEEL YOUR PAIN (sorry to quote Bill Clinton.) Just listen to whatever the doctors and surgeons are telling you to do and follow the other advice being given here...diversions work great! I watched a LOT of movies during recuperation time...the other thing is if you start feeling ANYTHING abnormal get it taken care of quickly! Never feel like you're bothering the doctor or whoever by calling and asking questions either... I hope you're completely sound and better soon! Christina aka Red |

However. That wasn't the one I had in mind, as you well know, Mr. Fitzhugh Wilson Williams!

Posted - October 30 2004 : 08:54:11 AM Well... in the absence of our illustrious healer the venerable and funny Doc M to provide you with laughter, which everyone knows is "the best medicine"... Ol' WW comes to the rescue.
What you need is a good escapist movie: one that has... say... lots of adventure and romance and history and good lookin' men with long hair and war and long rifles and rivers and waterfalls and canoes and brave women and sadness and love and strength and loincloths and feathers and striped skirts and silver earrings and adventure and romance and history and.............
Anyone know of one that fits that description??????

Posted - October 30 2004 : 07:52:36 AM If you can divert your attention, it might help. Perhaps watch a movie or listen to music, something that you get caught up in and focus on.
As I write this I realize when I have had severe pain as when the medication wore off after wisdom teeth extraction, sleep was what worked for me. |

I had just the opposite. I had to have skin cut from the roof of my mouth and grafted over my teeth. Ain't no fun either way. Not much pain, though. The dentist gave me some heavy stuff but I never had to take it. I couldn't take aspirin, so I didn't take anything. |

Posted - October 29 2004 : 11:34:03 PM Hi UL, I know that it is hard to think of the pain going away right now, but it will. When I was a teenager, I had to have a very painful gum surgery done. I was taking medication that made my gums grow too much over my teeth, so my gums had to be cut back. That is about the most painful thing that I ever went through, but in no time, the pain went away. Just give it some time and you will be smiling like this.
