As I've perused this forum I've seen a lot of members mentioning Old Bedford Village. My Dad worked at Old Bedford Village when we lived in Bedford in 1994 and 1995. He was on the office end of things being a computer programmer. Since he was an employee my Mom and sister and I got into the site free. Bea and I spent a lot of time running around the village and talking with the interpreters there. I remember a few of their names yet- they were always so nice. We have pics of us with our heads in the stocks! OBV is where we saw our very first Civil War reenactment-it was so small in comparison to what I've since attended but as kids we thought it was out of this world! It may have been one of the first events the site even held, I don't know. So you might say that the village is what hooked us into eventually getting into living history. I haven't been there since we left Bedford but by the sounds of their reenacment/living history schedule they have definitely expanded on their events and time periods to interpret! I hope to visit again some day. Do any of you still attend events there?

Hahahahaha!! Salt pork will give one the vapors, for sure, particularly if one does not understand its properties.

Actually, I have been using it in some of my receipts (That'd be 'recipes' for you non-18th century folks out there!) of late. It works wonders in certain campfire or hearth-cooked dishes.

It must have been the vapors from the salt pork... That's the Commisariat Service for you; they've given up on poisoning the King's Men and opt for arson instead!!!

P.S.- I made some 'etchings', and I will have to post them.

So why did you try to burn it down, Duncan?? ( I am really glad no one was hurt.....)

Old Bedford Village is one of my favorite sites to visit, and it is among the regular stops of my F&IW and WW1 Black Watch units, for both events as well as training weekends. As a matter of fact, the site director is also the corporal in my WW1 Black Watch unit.

OBV did Braddock's Defeat in 2005. It was a great event and I hope the will have more like it. I think it was the biggest there for the F&I period.
