You can vote on your choice of the 8 submitted designs currently under cpnsideration at WTC MEMORIAL CHOICES. I voted for the one called "Passages of Light" [I think it was - lower left in the poll], but, to be honest, I wasn't overly awed by any of them. Nice & all, but ... something seemed lacking to me. Maybe I just didn't spend enough time there. I reflect on the horror of that day, and all the emotions that swirled within, and I just don't feel it from these beautiful creations.
I read a bit this morning that the families of victims of the massacre have rejected all 8.

Posted - November 20 2003 : 10:46:24 PM Same here.Actually,I would leave the "ground zero" blank as just either a flat cement ground or grass with only one marker saying "At this spot,America saw it's darkest day" or something like that. But I did like the one you chose Rich,but....they don't really cut it. |

Posted - November 20 2003 : 10:17:22 PM I have to agree with you guys. They just don't cut it. I think they are all very cold, sterile and unattractive.
I think something with a large reflecting pool mixed with a peaceful, natural setting would be far more appropriate. As I said before, I really like the design of the buildings themselves and I think seeing them reflected in a pool would be stunning. |

I don't feel it either, Rich, and I'm glad the families have rejected these.
Only one of the pics at the site gives an idea of the scale of proposed construction around the memorial site.
I'd like to see the entire area turned into a green space, with a simple, and tasteful, memorial at the center. NYC has enough office buildings. |
