Posted - March 20 2011 : 11:44:10 PM Has anyone read any good (or, for that matter, bad) historical fiction set during the F&I War? JFC's Leatherstocking series is an obvious choice, and I've read most of it. Any other recommendations?

Posted - March 25 2011 : 08:06:45 AM Hervey Allen, a Pennsylvania writer, wrote three novels set in the F&I period: "The Forests and the Fort," "Bedford Village," and "Toward the Morning":

If your library has culled them because nobody has read them in ages, there are cheap used copies available through Amazon (probably those same culled copies). I don't claim to have read these. I started one and found it pretty slow and dull, but if you've read Cooper, you clearly have more stick-with-it-ness than I do! |

"Northwest Passage" Kenneth Roberts You can't get much better than Kenneth Roberts! Glorious!
"The Red Heart" The story of Frances Slocum, captive. James Alexander Thom Good writer -- good book
"The Widow's War" Sally Gunning Not about the war, per se, but takes place during that time. Very well-crafted story. |
