A couple of years ago my grandpa died and passed along his near complete collection of Louis L'Amour novels to me. I've been slowly working my way through them and have now finished the "Sackett" series. Some of you probably are very familiar with these while others have no idea what I'm talking about. For the latter here are a couple of informative pages:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sackett
http://www.louislamour.com/sackett/index.htm

for the former a poll- since there are 17 Sackett novels (in addition to multiple stories with tie-ins) and only 15 slots in the poll I've combined a couple of the novels that fit closely together.
So, down to business. If you have read some or all of the Sackett novels please vote for your favorite. Also, please share any other Louis L'Amour related thoughts- favorite books, movies, etc...

I read through the series when I was about 12. L'Amour was a great storyteller. The first book of his that I ever read was one of the Sackett series, "To the Far Blue Mountains." That was probably my favorite of the series, though they were all pretty good.

I'm in the same boat as WW susquesus, - from your post they sound good, think I'll pick a couple up. Thx, ...

I think you'd really like them WW. They're page-turnin' pocket books. Especially the early ones(Sacketts Land through the Warriors Path) which take place between 1600 and the mid 1700's. L'Amour definiteley drew from Cooper. At one point in a story that took place in the mid-late 1800's one character talks about Coopers excellent book, "The Deerslayer".
Daybreakers through Lonely on the Mountain take place in the 1870's in the West.

I have never read any of L'Amour's books. I should try one sometime.

I didn't feel right about participating is this poll since it has been about 20 years since I read that whole series (plus several other LL books). I do remember preferring the early Sackett stories to most of the rest of his works.
