Posted - March 31 2005 : 11:27:17 AM My husband was looking over the latest mailing from the Military Book Club and called my attention to a new book entitled "White Devil," subtitled "A True Story of War, Savagery, and Vengeance in Colonial America." It's about Rogers' Rangers' attack on the Abenaki village of St. Francis -- the events portrayed in the book and movie "Northwest Passage." It's written by Stephen Brumwell, author of "Redcoats" (haven't yet read that, but I know Sgt. Munro thinks very highly of it). I generally try to wait for the trade paperback edition of a book I want to own, but this was too good to resist, so we went ahead and ordered it. I'll let you know .... |

Posted - April 02 2005 : 10:33:53 AM Wade, I looked up the book on Amazon to see if there was any mention of illustrations, but didn't see any (the book club flyer just mentioned "black and white images"). However, in one of its "if you like this, maybe you'll like that" recommendations, Amazon mentioned a book BY Gary Zaboly entitled "American Colonial Ranger: The Northern Colonies, 1724-65." It's an Osprey book. Maybe that's the one he was referring to. |

You are 100% right, and I too have ordered a copy of Mr. Brumwell's latest work. Now, if that UPS driver can get to my house any faster...
