In the last month, I have read two good books on this subject. Both were written by a gentleman named Walter Dunn and are titled "Frontier Profit and Loss, The Fur Trade and the British Army 1760-1764" and "Opening New Markets, The British Army and The Northwest Teritory 1765-1770". These two works are excellent treatises on the fur trade economy and its relationship with the British Army in mid-18th century America. Mr. Dunn's other work, "The New Imperial Economy" is a study in the role of contractors in suppling the British Army during both the French and Indian War, as well as the post war frontier service period.
Anyone who studies 'our period', must read these books, if for any reason than to just understand the actual values (which Mr. Dunn converts into modern dollar amounts) of the trade goods and peltry involved. For the military, native or trader type reenactor, these works are indespensible for portraying a first-person character.

I have just aquired Mr. Dunn's third book on this subject, "The New Imperial Economy, The British Army On The Frontier". I am sure that this work will be as satisfying and useful for research as his first two works.

Thank you, Trailman. I actually 'stumbled' acrossed Mr. Dunn's works while doing a blanket search of "Colonial Period" at Amazon. Not excactly a brillant use of deductive reasoning by me, but as an instructor at 'Ft. Benning's School for Boys' once said, "I'd rather be lucky than good, 'cause lucky is always good enough."

Very good suggestions for reading. Have not read them, but looked through for research and will read thoroughly some day.
