Hey all,

I recently drew these pieces and thought I'd share them with you all.Mike Boldt,a fellow Alamo artist and historian, kindly agreed to scan these for me after I sent him a copy.

1.) The Last Stand - This piece is of an Alamo defender about to make his last stand in a room in the Long Barracks.I did most of this drawing when I went down to Orlando,Florida at the end of May. I drew the defender using a 0.7 mechanical pencil and a regular BIC black ink pen.The defender was drawn first with pencil and then gone over with pen so he could stand out well with everything else.Every drawing...I begin with the eyes, because the eyes can be the most important aspect of a drawing.

2.) The Breach - This piece was inspired by a photo of Castulo Guerra as General Castrillon which was in Frank Thompson's "The Alamo: An Illustrated Story of the Epic Film."It was named such, because of Brian Kaufman's amazing novel "The Breach" which followed General Manuel Castrillon from the march from Saltillo to the Battle at San Jacinto.I sent Brian Kaufman a copy of my drawing and I am proud to know that it is framed and sits at his side on his desk.

Please, tell me what you think! I'm always up for some useful criticism.

Well, first I start with the eyes and then down. After the eyes...I just build on to the persons features until I'm pleased with the way he or she looks. If it's a historical person I'm drawing..I search for any portraits or details of their features and start from there. The second drawing, called the Breach,I used a photo of an actor as reference. If a person looks abnormal or too bolky...I scrap the drawing or try and redraw it.

The Last Stand took me about 4 days, including the days I spent adding details and bits to make it more realistic.

The Breach took me a few weeks, because I worked on it on and off the last couple of days of school and didn't get around to finishing it until the date written on the paper there.

Where do you get the inspiration for what the people you draw will look like? Do you just see them in your mind when you read about them? How long did it take you to draw all these pictures?

People who come in just to bug the heck out of members. Those are what we call "trolls".Or spammers...whatever you'd like to call them.

Any other thoughts on the drawings?

I love all types of history, but I think I'd have to say I find American most interesting too. It's just that we're living where it actually happened. I'd like to go back to the east coast, where there is more history. California is so new. I wish I could set up a messageboard or something, but I don't really have any thing to focus on. What do you mean by trolls?
Dillon1836 Posted - June 14 2004 : 2:28:12 PM
American.I was born and raised learning it so..might as well stick with it lol I just find American to be more interesting.

Thanks for the comments on my messageboard.I work on it on and off. It's keeping it together and updated which is the problem. And ofcourse, making sure no trolls come alongs as well. What's your historical interests?

I took a look at your site. It's pretty nice. You're a real pro, are you interested in all types of history or do you mainly concentrate on American?

Hello riverevir,

I got interested into the Alamo when my father first showed me "Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier" when I was about 3 or 4.Now,15,I understand almost every aspect of the Alamo story.I'm glad you liked my art and I'm glad that you all took the time to look at them.

Thank you.

Well, imagination and the fact I have to face accuracy while drawing historical pieces such as the Alamo.

And you know,Dances, that might not be such a bad idea.Maybe when I get the time to...I might do something like that. But remember..I'm also trying to write a novelBut thanks for the comment.I appreciate it.

I am hardly an expert, but I wouldn't need to be to recognize that your drawings are very good. I am really impressed with your intrest in The Alamo, when did you first become interested?

What's to criticize?

Did you do the drawings from your own imagination?

You are very talented! Have you considered making your own Alamo comic book?!!! I'd buy one!
