Dear Friends of DuPont Forest, Today marks the second anniversary of the opening of the waterfalls at DuPont State Forest. Many of you remember, as I do, those exciting first days--the large crews of volunteers picking at the frozen ground trying to prepare the trails for the opening day . . . the looks on the faces of dozens of visitors seeing Triple Falls for the first time. Since that time, Friends of DuPont Forest has worked to channel that early enthusiasm to build a foundation for a long-lasting organization that will serve the Forest and its visitors. While there have not been as many headlines as those early days, we have made tangible progress in preparing our organization for the long haul. In fact, with the devastating budget deficit, the state depends on FODF's financial help now more than ever. See my upcoming mail message for a preview at our 2003 priorities. And that brings me to my special request. As with other non-profits, Friends of DuPont Forest needs to become a membership organization. That means that we need you, our loyal supporters and volunteers, to become a member. You, our email-based supporters, are in fact FODF's most valuable asset. Most of you wrote cards, letters, and emails to Governor Hunt to save High Falls and Triple Falls. Now, we need your membership support if we are going to build a viable long-term support organization for the Forest. Our adult memberships start at $25, with family at $35. Members joining at $50 or above receive a special edition "Friends of DuPont Forest" tee shirt (all cotton Hanes Beefy Tee). Our new membership coordinator, Nancy Black, is planning additional events and benefits for our members, such as a quarterly newsletter. FODF is an official 501[c]3 non-profit, making contributions tax-deductable for most taxpayers. If you are unable to afford a membership at this time and have volunteered for two or more FODF work projects, please let us know. An anonymous donor has offered memberships for up to ten of our hard working volunteers. To join, please click on one of the links below to print out a simple application form. Mail application with your check to: Friends of DuPont Forest PO Box 2107 Brevard NC 28712
Simple application only: http://www.dupontforest.com/application.htm Full membership brochure (requires Acrobat Reader): http://www.dupontforest.com/FODF_Brochure.pdf Thank you very much for your support of DuPont State Forest. Sincerely, Jeff Jennings president, Friends of DuPont Forest
