I was out in central PA over the holiday and stopped by Gettysburg on July 7 to see the 145th Anniversary Reenactment of Pickett's Charge. It was well done and, as always, very sad watching those men (boys) march across that field right into the face of death. I'm no military person, but I have to wonder what in the world General Lee was thinking.

Anyway, for those of you who do reenactments on a regular basis, all I have to say is hooray for all your hard work! You must be so hot at these events, though! I was wearing 21st century clothing and was sweltering. I felt sorry for the reenactors dressed in 19th century clothing with their long sleeves, long pants, wool coats, long dresses, etc. And if you're reenacting 18th century events, I'm sure there is even more clothing!

Great photos!

My husband and I decided to do a trek to Gettysburg just before we moved out west. Was Memorial weekend and what a rainy weekend it ended up being. That even made it more somber and apropos considering the battlefield/graveyard we walked upon. I was very humbled.

Thanks... those pictures were made by a 13-year-old young lady in our group. She made some really incredible photos at that event. Yes, that's my husband out front commanding the troops.

Nice pictures, Stephanie. Is that your husband out in front leading the troops?
Stephanie Posted - July 12 2008 : 9:27:29 PM
You might have seen him. He was bttn commander over some of the NC Confederate troops, including the 25th and 26th NC. You might have noticed the 26th NC because they have a great band.
Our group ends up playing Union much of the time, so they were glad to wear the gray for this event.
I tried posting pics earlier and it didn't work, I'll give it another shot. These pics were made by a young lady in our group.

Oh, wow! Was he in Confederate or Union attire? We were standing by the Confederate cannons (loud!!). Might I have seen him?

I do agree with you Winglo. Kudos to the fine folks that participate in reenacting!! I'm sure a lot of hard work, sweat, and tears go into an event! Kinda makes you wonder what the men who were fighting hundreds of years felt?!

In the current Ticonderoga thread, Fitz said, "As I told someone else, in the future among F&I reenactors, there will be those who were at Ticonderoga and those who were not."

I'm here to tell you that the same thing could be said for Civil War re-enactors about the 125th Anniversary Re-enactment of Gettysburg. It's hard to believe that happened 20 years ago! Where does the time go?

Glad you were able to stop by. My husband was one of those wearing wool there that weekend. I had the good sense not to go (big events like that sometimes aren't the best for civilians). I bet it was quite a scene to see that many reenactors on the battlefield, though. There are some videos of the event on youtube already.
