Posted - September 26 2021 : 5:04:44 PM Another another GREAT WEEKEND ... at the Fort today. Had groups here today from New Hampshire, Rhode Island . & Mass. - This was by far the "most attended event" of the year, so far. Great "Fall weather", - upper 60's, decent breeze & mostly sunny. . William Carter (Master shirt maker) - I talked with him awhile, very interesting. His shirts, which HE sews, are all hand sewn by him and made of linen. ... http://www.livinghistoryshop.com/18th-century-clothing/hand-stitched-18th-century-shirts/ Image Insert:

Posted - September 28 2021 : 08:14:46 AM I think you are probably right. Some years ago I worked with a lady who asked me if the Battle of Cowpens was Rev War or Civil War. Where we worked was about 20 minutes from the battlefield. The history and the monuments were all over town. Yet she had a masters degree and had no clue. It's probably something of "it's not relevant to me" mentality. I always loved history from the time I was a boy, and I will never understand that thinking. |

Posted - September 27 2021 : 11:11:51 AM You know Fitz, - it really was a great day & a great event, enjoyed it a great deal. ... Not to throw a cloud over things, but "hearing some comments" (or questions) during the event - you get to realize "how little we know today" about our own history. - My guess is that many/most of those folks know more (far more) about Martin Luther King's birthday etc. than they do about this kind of history. |
