Posted - August 28 2021 : 5:11:31 PM Last week I passed on seeing the "Abenaki @ The Fort at No. 4" - weather was hot/humid & it was thunderstorms & heavy rain for the whole weekend. - I would have like to have gone - got to know a couple of the Abenaki by now. "They" show up for the "winter weekend" - I'll try & give that a shot. - Today was a good show, the 1st N.H. Regiment is here every year, but with a few less today. - Plus there was a fife & drum corp - put on an excellent show. .

As they approached the barn, Natives hiding in the bushes opened fire, killing Putnam, "the first victim of [Native] vengeance".[6]:26–27 In 1747, during King George's War, the fort was besieged for three days by a force of French and Native people. Captain Phineas Stevens and 31 soldiers stationed at the fort repelled the attack, with their success becoming well-known.[6]:33–38 |

Posted - August 29 2021 : 08:14:21 AM I take it you were one of the three that showed up??? - That's too damn hot, - anything much over the mid 80's & I want to hibernate. Cool/cold you can dress for - heat, kinda tough. - There's another event planned for late September, I plan on being there - the weather then is usually great. - If you manage to get to "something: Fitz - post a few pics. ... Long trip yesterday - the road leading into Charlestown, N.H. was closed for repaving (a loong stretch) so I had to back-track & find the bridge crossing into Bellows Falls, Vermont - then head north & use the bridge back into N.H. north of the Fort. - I had forgotten how scenic Vermont really is. |

Posted - August 29 2021 : 07:43:46 AM There was an event here the weekend before last, and only three of our unit showed up. But no visitors. Only the staff. It was around 100 degrees with heavy storms predicted any minute. Finally they came, and we left. I can't wait for it to cool off some. |
