Revolutionary War Field Days are going on in Camden, South Carolina this weekend. (Off Interstate 20 in the southeast midlands...) For those who don't know Camden is a significant historical spot in the Revolutionary War, site of two battles and a long encampment by the British. Cornwallis stayed there for a while, etc.
I can highly recommend Revolutionary War Field Days. Lots of great re-enactments, vendors, food, etc.
Here's a Web site that gives information and directions...

Sounds like it was great. That air show is an annual event at the Camden airfield sponsored by a local group called the Celebrate Freedom Foundation. I hate I missed that too! The Tuskegee Airmen were there for a reunion as well as a special flyover by the Thunderbirds! Can't believe I missed BOTH my favorite historical periods in one weekend! But sounds like you had a great time. Glad you got to enjoy what you could of the airshow. If you ever get a chance to take a flight on one of those planes, do it!
Meanwhile, I'm going to mark my calendar for that 225th celebration next year. Sounds like it will be awesome...

It seemed a little smaller than usual, but the vendors were the best ever. The battles went well, and we burned a LOT of powder. There was an air show nearby with some really nice WWII aicraft. They were flying very near the field and we spent more time watching them than the enemy. That night some of the WWII people came over to the party in '40's dress and that was quite impressive. Not often you see women dressed like they stepped out of the pages of a '40's magazine. There were also some people doing French, and not New France French, but LaFayette-type French. They looked, well, impressive, too. I almost deserted on Sunday. I found that you could get a ride on the B17 or the B24 for a reasonable price, and that is something I have always wanted to do. I would have, except the lines were probably long, and I would have had to leave all my equipment in the camp. Next year is the 225th aniversary of the Battle of Camden and that will be their big event. It will be in August, not November, since that is when the battle actually happened. One of the officials said they expect it to be packed. Something like Savannah was this October, probably over 1000 troops on the field.

Didn't get to make it to Field Days this year sadly...Fitz, how did it go? I hated to miss this one...

I am leaving for Camden in the morning. Are you going to be there? I was supposed to camp there tonight, but I decided to go to Fort Toulouse on Thursday, so I needed today to get ready for the weekend. If you dress up in funny clothes and hang around of Saturday night, there are a couple of good parties to go to.

By the way, I didn't see anyone who looked much like Theresa at Toulouse.
