Posted - November 12 2004 : 10:53:12 PM Good Day, Just noticed this post, thought I would reply. The weekend was splendid as always. Quite interestingly, due to the fact that only one French soldier came and, oh, 4 Indians? we Rangers were recruited to turn coat and go as milice. Funny thing, that -- every time I am at Rogers' Island, I'm a milice. HOW IRONIC IS THAT???? It's the curse of the Rangers that our kit is convertable, while the average redcoat's is not.
The best part of the weekend was lazying on the river in the bateaux waiting for the battle. Just kidding. A very neat part, in all seriousness, was Saturday night when the townspeople from the town of Fort Edward gave to us a presentation of their vision for the future of Rogers' Island in the event that the State is able to buy the bulk of the property from the current landowner -- something that was in negotiation at the time and may be settled soon (fingers' crossed). They also took us on Sunday on a fantasticly detailed tour of the remains (such as they are) of Fort Edward. My gosh -- it would be something special if there was a Gathering up north and I asked Marilyn to give the Gathering a special tour...
Anyway, that is a brief report. Otherwise, as far as I could tell, we milice lost both battles. It's hard shooting at one's friends!!
YH&OS, Pvt. Chauncey Ps-- we did see many odd brighty-colored things in the sky early Sunday morning. A pig and a spider amongst them...
