The long-range forcasts look like rain for the weekend again. I am only free on Saturday so I'm probably going to see how good oilcloth works.

Kurt,'twas me on the American vessel...We were pumping on the wooden bilge pump most of the way. When the enemy bateaux came sneaking out..I could not make out their colors. A shot from one of their swivels announced their true nature and turned us back towards the beach to warn the captain..You would think that cannon fire would be warning enough but... In 2005 the 250th anniversary of the first battle of Lake George (Johnson vs Dieskou) will most likely be commemorated and will be a huge, huge event. More to come. I was in the coordination tent in my drab 18th century clothing with tricorn. Perhaps it was me that you saw...Again, warmest regards, Tim |

Hi Tim,
For a big guy I'm kinda bashful. My wife and I were at the booth near the bicycle parking around 11:00. I was wearing a tan bucket hat and a green and blue plaid shirt (among other things). Perhaps it was you in 18th century attire? And again, after the landing on the beach, entering the northeast corner of the field muttering "Row the boat. Kill the people."?
I tried taking snapshots but we were too far away for good pictures. I look forward to a new From The Ramparts. Will it be available here? Yr. obt. svt. Kurt |

Kurt... I am very happy that you liked the Raid.. The weather was spectacular...as I predicted! I was set up in the American camp and also manning the event coordination tent..Did we meet?? The Fort George Alliance (Fortified Camp in the Last of the Mohicans) along with New York State did a very good job of ensuring the success of the weekend presentation. As soon as the photographs of the battles, camps, crowds, etc. are in to me, I will be doing an extensive report- From The Ramparts- on the weekend and the Fort George Alliance itself. What a great event! Bring binoculars and telephoto lenses! There was a naval battle off of Million Dollar Beach which sounded good. You have to move around to see things. We set up in the shade at the end of Ft. George Rd. so we couldn't hear the narrator but we had a good view of the Indian treeing and drawing out the squad from the plank breastwork. It was an overpowering wave of redcoats coming down the hill when the trap sprung. Great event! |

A thought more to do with the tactical that occurs the week following than the weekend event is several of the hunting seasons are open in the northern zone currently. I know there aren't that many people who hunt anymore and that blaze orange is not period, but we don't need any accidents out there so keep a sharp watch. (Blaze orange is a wonderful color for winter clothes.) |

I've been scooped! ...And remiss. The Carlton's Raid event is this weekend and is being run jointly by Lake George Battlefield Park (New York State) and The Fort George Alliance. I will be helping to coordinate the event as I am a member of the Alliance. Please visit me either in the event tent or camped with the 1st NY regiment in the American encampment. Reenactor participation is by invitation (no walk ons) and all reenactors must be registered because it's on state land. Fort George is the spot where the LOTM massacre took place and yet annother massacre by Carlton and his allies 23 years later. There will be no rain...I won't allow it. Would that I had nothing else to do but travel around to spectate at all of these events. But, alas... I must work.
