If you're unfamiliar with this leg of our story it is the first chapter. Hawkeye and Chingachgook are in their mid 20's, Uncas yet to be born. It takes place in 1745 and even though it is the first chronologically it was the last written. This is Coopers masterpiece, he is clearly the master of his craft at this point.
