Posted - August 13 2006 : 9:20:11 PM Howdy folks- hope all is well with y'all. I just wanted to share a link to a page where you can download old time radio dramatizations of Last of the Mohicans and Deerslayer. If you haven't read or seen other versions of the film and are interested you might enjoy this. They are in mp3 format and to be honest the sound quality is pretty rough. But hey- they're from 1932- what can you expect. Deerslayer is my favorite of the Leatherstocking Tales and is also included here. If you're unfamiliar with this leg of our story it is the first chapter. Hawkeye and Chingachgook are in their mid 20's, Uncas yet to be born. It takes place in 1745 and even though it is the first chronologically it was the last written. This is Coopers masterpiece, he is clearly the master of his craft at this point. At any rate, I hope one or more of you takes advantage of and enjoys these free downloads. Here's the link:

Take care!!

Posted - August 16 2006 : 6:50:06 PM I looked at the intro to Deerslayer again and it says that "the events of this story take place between the years 1740 and 1745" which could have made Uncas as old as 18 by the time Last of the Mohicans takes place. Chingachgook and Hawkeye would have been in their mid to late thirties at the point that "Pathfinder" and "Last of the Mohicans" occur. |

Posted - August 15 2006 : 11:04:17 AM So Uncas would have been no more than 12 at the time of LOTM? In the 1932 version of LOTM Uncas is portrayed as a boy. |
