Posted - July 14 2003 : 9:31:59 PM All of you folks that love Celtic Music, like to gaze on kilted laddies, enjoy primitive sports, good eats , and just a good ole time on the mountain in the shadow of Grandfather Mountain - Welllll, if you didn't make this year's games, you missed a good'un!
The Red-haired Lass (Christina), and Gear Gal (Cecelia) joined me and my red-heads (daughter and friend) for a great time at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - the largest highland games in North America. It was 53 degrees Friday night at the Celtic Jam and mid 70's during the day - great weather for a mountain weekend. It was Friday night that we first encountered a new music group from Scotland. Clann an Drumma (children of the drum), came all the way from Glasgow and had the whole games abuzz with their primitive tribal drumming (5 drummers and 1 piper) and their Pictish attire.

One thing quite notable about this group is that one of the group founders, Joe Kilna MacKenzie, wrote the haunting song in WE WERE SOLDIERS called Sgt. MacKenzie. It starts..."Lay me downnnnnn, in the cold, cold grounnnnnnnd..." The barechested gent below is Joe Kilna. Barechested laddies in kilts beating on drums and making primitive, eerry clan calls - Mmmmm, Mmmmmm, Mmmmm - well, those of you know me know how I feel 'bout dat!!! If you think you'd like their music - you can check 'em out at www.clannandrumma.com

We also chatted with Alastair Fraser, who played the fiddle tunes in LOTM. He ALSO happened to drop the hint that HE actually wrote the main theme for the movie and didn't get credit. Hmmmmmmmm!
As always, it is great to visit the NC mountains with good friends - and this weekend was no exception!! Man, I do love THOSE mountains!!
My other child, Delta, also had a great weekend, although hers was a bit more laid back!!
