Posted - October 28 2002 : 11:56:17 AM Alrighty then; let me make this as clear as I can ...
- Point 1: This web site began because of a story called The Last of the Mohicans. Any arguments?
- Point 2: The Mohican Board became a place for people to discuss same. Any arguments on that?
- Point 3: Obviously, as friendships were formed, conversation expanded. We tried to accommodate. I think the layout of this board speaks well to that. Differ?
- Point 4: None of the above should lead anyone to the conclusion that EVERYTHING is fair game. If you have, I'll make it clear: It's not!
The dilemma always comes in at Point 3. Where does one draw the line? What's ok; what's not? Part of that is easy. No flaming or attacking other posters. That's simply common courtesy. The rest is a gray area ... subject matter. If I asked each of you where to draw the line, if it indeed is to be drawn at all, I'd probably get as many responses as there are posters. Where to draw the line? Should we allow pornography? Should we advocate the overthrow of the government? Or the molestation of children? You get the idea ... when enough is enough, it's enough!
So ...
You can't please everybody all the time.
If you please yourself first, you will please others.
See, as many of you know, we had that all backward in the beginning. We tried mightily to please everyone, to the detriment of ourselves. It doesn't work.
Those are two lessons we've learned - the very hard way - over the past 5 and a half years that we've been "running" the Mohican Board. They, really, are our only choice. WE - Elaine & I - are ultimately the ones to draw the line. If not, it could be chaos. If something is unacceptable to us, for whatever reason, it's not allowed. And all that's not to say we don't listen to what we hear from you. We do, and anyone who has been here for a spell knows that very well. But, we have no where else to stand except in our own morality. What we think is right; what we think is wrong.
We set up a board that WE like. There are reasons. And, in that way, we'll attract folks that like it that way, too. It's not a grand scheme, it's merely evolution ... And, it's really a fairly liberal policy. How many people out there have ever been "scolded" and told not to do that here? Very, very few.
Any arguments?

Posted - October 31 2002 : 05:39:03 AM Yes, you can easily do that. I started a new topic to more fully explain how, Ongewasgone. See here: Subscribing to the Mohican Board |

Posted - October 30 2002 : 09:46:28 AM I agree with you Rich, and I've a question to ask you: like you said, this board was born to give us the possibility to talk about LOTM; and, after, other forums came out. Well, if it's possible, I'd like to receive e-mail info only about the topics posted to "The Last of the Mohicans" board. Does exist a way to do this?

Withdraw that remark at ONCE!!! I didn't get my nickname for nuthin' ya know! Am a sweet, caring, huggy sorta personality ...er... unless provoked! (Rich, I am still waiting to get my own back for the two black eyes the DT inflicted on HM over some dubious stash of chaw-co-lats...!)
And Ilse? No...I do not wish to discuss Blair, Chirac..or Schroder for that matter! I tell you...I am scared to pick up my newspaper these days!
Ok ok...I withdraw my mallet...fancy a beer instead?
Her hugginess... HM
PS I am going to be incommunicado for the next few days...so if I don't reply to whatever dodgy response you make...be assured, I will take care of it upon my return!

Posted - October 29 2002 : 12:48:58 PM Anthony ... you are ticking me off!
Of course you've gotten the hint, I directly told you a couple of times.
Why am I ticked??? Not because you are who you are. I rather like you ... always have. Not because you "don't fit in." That can be remedied.
It's cause you insist on being hyper-sensitive & feeling everything is against you ... and you don't listen, you get defensive. Like yesterday, for example. You worried that the "Chainbearer" thing was a negative message to you, or something. I pointed you to the origin of said quote, and so you go and edit your message so that now there's no rhyme nor reason as to why I said what I said. You've repeatedly done stuff like that. Say what you mean; mean what you say. Is that so hard?
I tried to post a rather lengthy, and thought-out post in this spot early this morning. Like Adele, I ran into trouble doing so, and lost it. So now, I'm in a hurry and must write quickly ...
You say you don't fit in? Here's an analogy of sorts:
You move to a foreign country. Do you try to learn the language and customs, so that you can begin to fit in? Or do you resist, and cry, at every turn, "I'm a foreigner. Why can't you accept me as I am?"
It's your choice, Anth. You are more than welcomed to stay here and post among us, but you need to make the effort to stay within the rather modest guidelines. If you can't do that, than indeed I guess this place is not for you. I rather imagine it could be, though ...
It's not my board; it's the MOHICAN BOARD. It has a lineage, if you will. I may pay for it; I may "run" it; but I value everyone's opinions on what makes it work & be a better place ... it's the culmination of all the input that you see today. |

If you would like to see further evidence of my support, refer to my response to your latest Weekly Update. I wrote that early this morning, before this new thread appeared. As I said in that post, this Board is your "backyard." All of us are guests here & as such, we should all abide by your rules.
You're right, you have to be true to yourselves & I just want to thank you, once again, for having the vision to start this Board & for maintaining it & allowing all of us the opportunity to come & play in Mohicanland!
