Hi, everyone! Hope you all had a very good Christmas. I have a quick question: Is anyone else having trouble with this website? I've tried three different computers now, and on both I always get a "plug-in error" message that quickly boots me off the internet. I can only read one forum at a time before the "end program" box pops up and the computer freezes. I thought it was just my computer, but since I've had the same problem on several computers now....

So has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks!

There are so many variables, Red Fraggle, that it is hard to say. All I know is that I experience no problems from my computer using IE7 and running Windows XP SP2. There is nothing inherent in the site that would cause any problems. I have accessed the site using Firefox & Opera, as well. Other than no sound, everything works fine.

You might try disabling all your plug-ins & see if the browser still crashes. If not, you can then activate each plug-in - one by one - until you isolate the culprit. Sometimes, browser add-ons - like Hot Bar, etc. - do interfere with things.

Fire Fox has taken one huge chunk from IE's customer base - millions, - with more to come most likely. You might give some thought Kay to using "Thunderbird" for your e-mail. Very easy to use, and safer that Outlook. If you do, - it's always a good idea to have all your addresses printed out, to eliminate the chance of losing them during the changeover.

I don't have any problems either, but I use Firefox too. It surprises me how many people do use Firefox. I started using it because my son told me that I wouldn't have as many problems with pop ups as I did with IE and he was right. I don't have any problems with those annoying pop up ads.

Love,
Kay

I think that I will look into that. I believe my step-son, who is a software programmer for Lockheed Martin, uses it, so I think I will ask his advice. My computer is a Compaq Presario and can be a bit touchy about programs. He removed some unneeded stuff for me and got it running pretty smoothly, with fewer freeze-ups. I am reluctant to mess with it and add anything else, for fear it will blow up in my face! I'm not quite ready to get a new one just yet, if I can keep it going a while longer.

Thanks for the advice, MG!

I run IE. No problem.

I've never had any problems with this Board either, but then I'm also using Firefox. No MIE for me!

I would have to agree with that. I use Netscape 8.1 which utilizes the Foxfire engine and I really like it. I wouldn't recommend Netscape when a computer has limited ram and an older chip. There is just too much overhead. Just try the Foxfire.

I changed my browser to Fire Fox, - a big improvement right off the bat. ... Since then I've bought a new computer with lots of "ram" - but have stayed with Fire Fox. In fact I went with their e-mail also - Thunderbird, more secure that Outlook. Both are open-source - and free. www.firefox.com .... The change over is simple, - you really don't have to do a thing - and you can keep "Outlook" if you really want to.

I don't have problems currently, but when I still had my old computer this site would throw me off all the time. I was on Windows 98 too, with very little RAM and something about this site would cause me to get thrown off the internet. Since I got a newer computer, no problems!
You can easily upgrade the RAM... I did it to my old one and it helped for a while. Also, like WW said, having too many other programs running can cause problems on an older computer as well.

I have not experienced this particular problem.

My computer at home is 6 years old and runs Windows 98, 2nd Ed. It doesn't have much RAM, so I have to be careful about having more than one program running at a time. Occasionally, when I am in Internet Explorer and have been visiting different websites, if I attempt to go to this one, IE will freeze up. I have to End Task and then go back into IE and go directly to mohicanpress. Then it will work OK.

My computer at work, which has much more RAM and runs Windows XP gives me no problems with this site.

Perhaps Rich can offer you some advice.

(P.S. I also moved your post to a more appropriate forum.)
