Posted - May 19 2002 : 8:03:26 PM Dear Rich and Elaine,
The new Board definitely has some plus factors, although I miss (like everyone else, I'm sure) the beauty and artistry of the old Board. Being the tech genius I am (I can hear you har-harring all the way to Illinois) it will take me a little while to get the hang of it, but will keep abreast of posts and chime in when I have anything significant to say. How long has it been since I appear to have had anything significant to say? Don't answer that. How do I get the darned smiley icons on here, anyway?

Posted - June 01 2002 : 8:58:16 PM If you are using Netscape, you should be using Netscape 6.2 It is the best version, with the most options, and the price is right (free). It has all the functionality of IE 6 and a few features which are better.

Posted - June 01 2002 : 6:00:03 PM You're kidding, right????
Manual? You said manual? Egads Chris, I've been going absolutely crazy with this thing - luckily, as you know, I have a lot of time on my hands right now - trying to figure out all the ins & outs of its inner workings. Mostly with modifications & add-ons. My success rate is about 50% ... so, I'm not qualified, surely, to be the manual ...
However, I have mostly figured out the posting part - really not too difficult!
The Cookie thing, though, might be another story. Listen, Mrs. Hawkeye, I know you, and I know of your computer woes whenever it comes to anything related to my computer! But, giving you the benefit of the doubt, I would ask, "Do you have 'Cookies' turned on within your browser?" Netscape & IE have somewhat different processes, but if you poke around in Tools, or Options,, or Preferences ... you ought to be able to find something Cookie-related. Turn it on, if not already so.
If it is on, then it's this - and just this AM I received an E-mail from someone else about something similar - there is a little bug in the script for this forum [hopefully, to be soon fixed!] that does seem to go wacky over the Cookie-thing. You should try clearing all Cookies, and seeing if it then works. It worked for me.
Other than that, even without the Cookie option, you're not too much more worse off then you were on the old, and dear, Mohican Board!
Right?!? Hey, you've got the Smileys back!

Posted - June 01 2002 : 4:22:17 PM Dang, Rich. I'm never going to get used to your new toy. Every time I think I've gotten it figured out, you change something. My "save password" has never saved my password, and now, when I am logged in, I don't get the "log out" option. Where can I buy the user's manual for this thing? Chris

Posted - June 01 2002 : 07:51:12 AM Yep!
I was playing ... new toy, and all ... Anyway, it's fixed (I think) ... clicking on the Yellow Smile Icon should bring up the Icons again. Clicking on the Green Smile Icon will bring up a message that No New Smiles Were Found, or something to that effect. I now can ADD new Smileys, but, as of yet, haven't. If you have any, let me know.
YES! I have been tampering with the Board's code, so if you stumble upon anything else not functioning, do let me know! Appreciate your distress call Diane B.!
I hope to have some other new "toys" in place before long ...

Posted - May 31 2002 : 10:45:19 PM Hmmmmmm ..... Diane, I was about to say it was a Netscape problem but it isn't. It's an equal browser disemployer glitch! Just a temporary setback!! EVERYBODY, stay calm!!!!!
The smiley graphics script isn't linked to the board at the moment. We'll get those smilies back fer ya! (Me thinks Ricardo was playing with the board again. Gonna have to get that boy a new toy.)
Meanwhile, we might use the old fashioned method! :) :( (*') <: :> %$#***!!!!

Posted - May 31 2002 : 9:37:29 PM Dear Rich & Elaine,
Thanks for the helpful hints on how to use some of the features of the new Board! As others have said, I also miss the "old" Board but sometimes, change is good! I'm still not able to get the smiley faces to work...I click on the yellow smiley icon on the format line, but I get an error window every time! I'll keep trying, though - and after I figure that one out, it's on to getting the quotes thing to work! I do love a challenge...

Posted - May 21 2002 : 06:29:00 AM OK ... here's some more stuff I've learned or noticed that may help those of you struggling with this format:
- Clicking on the "Mohican WWW Board" logo, from anywhere within the board, gets you back to the board's main display
- VERY HELPFUL: When you are in the posting field - that is, composing your post - look below the text field. There's a little drop down menu that, by default, reads, "basic". Switch it to "prompt," and you'll receive all kinds of help! I haven't tried the "help" selection, but that'd probably give even more direction!
- Netscape is confused by this format! It works, but will receive javascript errors ... you can't preview your post [not too bad, as you can go back in and correct your posts anyway], you can't move to the second page of the members list, stuff like that. According to our web stats, only 7% of the visitors here are still using Netscape, anyway. Switch to IE, is my advice!
- To access a picture from this site, use the "prompt" button to assist. The URL to images found on this site is: http://www.mohicanpress.com/images/NAMEOFIMAGE.jpg [or, .gif - most are .jpg] You can access images anywhere else on the Net in the same manner; different URL! This link, by the way, will not work, as there is no image called "NAMEOFIMAGE".
Clear it up any?

Think of it as a Mohicaan Renaissance, Gayle, where all that beauty & artistry will flourish like a new spring. Just be sure to add your own artistic strokes to this work in progress. And your mulitples of significant sayings!

Just click on the yellow smiley on the format line , choose one to your liking, and click away!
