Posted - September 19 2003 : 11:22:34 AM You might be surprised to find that you aren't!
Up top, to the left, on the main board page [default.asp] or Mohican Board [clicking on the MB logo, btw, takes you there no matter where you might be on the board!], is a drop-down menu called "Change Category Groups." If you are not showing either "All categories you have access to" or "default categories," well then you are missing part of the board. Please be sure to set it to one of those 2 settings. Unless, of course, you don't want to see it all, in which case the other choices are perfectly ok ... that's why they're there.
A similar situation occurs within each individual forum ... a drop-down menu there allows you to view posts within that particular forum that were posted within a pre-selected time frame. You can adjust that to your liking. If you don't select "all posts" then you will not be viewing all the topics available in that forum.

I really enjoy it when the boards are really humming, but I realize that conversation ebbs and flows. That's our nature.
Am here - sorta! Major issues on the domestic front keeping me tied up in knots at the moment - but am trying to get on here when I can!
Thank you for missing me!

What's worse is when you have spent days creating a site with a great watermark background, great graphics, etc., and the recipient says "what I had in mind was a plain white background with some writing in black letters". |

I can't tell you how many times (not here) I've posted a response only to have discussion end. |

Posted - September 20 2003 : 4:19:49 PM For me, it's basically laziness. I've discovered the section listing the most recent posts and just jump right to that. Once in a while I browse the entire listing for recent posts but when I check daily it's convenience driving me to click on the most recent. |

Those are my thoughts! Hope I didn't bore anyone...
They'll be back ...
As for the rest of your post, lots of times I read stuff - get a good chuckle or some food for thought - but I don't respond. Either I forget to come back, or I don't have anything to add, or ... well, you just plain can't respond to everything, you know?!?

Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. In the end, if you persevere, the rewards come - as I'll demonstrate tomorrow!
For the record, the thread in question here is this one: Ancestor's Stay at Ft. William Henry - Check it out! |

Posted - September 19 2003 : 8:22:13 PM You know, I have thought at times that perhaps people were not interested in some of my posts either. Example: today I posted about the "Talk Like a Pirate Day" with a link to a website that I thought was extremely amusing. No one has answered my post. But that doesn't mean they are not interested. Some are... some are not. Doesn't matter if they answer me or not. They don't necessarily need to. I always hope to stimulate conversation, but if it doesn't... it doesn't.
When I decide that I am going to post something, I hope that someone out there will find it either interesting or amusing. But the possibility is always there that some (or many!) will find it really, really boring. That's the way it goes! Sometimes when I read a really interesting post, I don't respond because I don't particularly have anything to say about it... but I still enjoy it.
Joe, I found your post on your ancestor extremely interesting, and am waiting for the next segment. One of my hobbies is my genealogy and I have a lot of pride in most of my ancestors and what they did during the 18th century. I can see that you have pride in yours too. So please continue.

Posted - September 19 2003 : 6:17:48 PM Yeah, but are you seeing the whole board, Joe?!?
Just kidding ...
Give your thread time, my friend ... I read it hastily one day. There were a bunch of new posts & I was pressed for time. IT IS INTERESTING and relevant and educational ... and I'm glad you posted it! More! Some folks have actually "left" the board, in the past, for this very reason - felt no one was interested in what they said because there were typically few replies. Must be more thick-skinned than that! |

Posted - September 19 2003 : 5:34:01 PM Maybe they just didn't see it. They couldn't know whether it was interesting or not until they read it, and they they would have shown up in the total.
By the way, it was interesting. |

Posted - September 19 2003 : 2:11:17 PM I only drop by to check new topics several times a day....
I did what you suggested and posted about my ancestors stay at Ft WH but it got so little response I think that will be the last I'll post on the subject. Only 14 people found it interesting enough to look at it.. |
