Posted - July 03 2002 : 9:00:41 PM What's an avatar? It's a little image used to represent your personna. Why's it called an avatar? I don't know ... beats the heck out of me ... never heard of these things before!
BUT, you can now add an avatar to your on-line self, on this Board, at least! If you want to ...
Simple requirements:
- image must be in .jpg or .gif format
- ideally, it should be 64 x 64 pixels in size
- you'll need to e-mail either the URL where the image is located OR the image itself to me
That's it!
Then, I'll add the image (or URL) to the avatar list - on which we have some samples [which are useable] - reserve it for you, and you can "adopt" it in your profile. Then, next to all your posts, will appear your selected pic [you can always change your selection].
Animated .gifs work, as well. You can make your own - they can be anything! [photo, drawing, clipart, etc.] - or do an Internet search for "avatars." Just as an example: I've been referred to, lovingly , as "King Richfed." I might choose, as my avatar, a nice little crown. Then, next to all my posts, the crown will appear in the area where it says, "richfed - average member - 90 posts."
Select an available avatar on your profile page!
Let your imagination run wild! Remember, image should be on the small side! [64x64 - max]. Just another little fun thing this board's format has to offer! |

Posted - July 07 2002 : 09:37:23 AM No, not at all, Caitlin ... I understand now! The smilies are pretty much up to the viewer to decipher ... some are easy & clear; some not so. I should add, it was me who gave names to the second group ... I just named 'em what I saw, but that doesn' mean that is what they're supposed to represent. Remember who you're dealing with here! |

Hmmm ... not sure exactly what you mean here, Caitlin.
When posting, you simply click on one of the 2 smile icons - each brings up a different set of smileys in a pop-up window. In that window is an image, a code [just for your benefit; no need to type it], and a description. All you need do is to click on the face you choose ... the code is automatically inserted.
Am I way out in left field on this?
No, I got that part for posting the message. I just meant when reading the posts in general. One will come across a little guy and maybe it's just me, but sometimes I can't figure him out. Like the coy one.... I just thought he was bored. Have I just confused you more?

OHMYGOD!!! Well, now you've done it! I can't help myself, I guess. Perhaps avatar is an acronym for:
A Varied Attempt To Achieve Resemblance

Posted - July 04 2002 : 11:42:06 AM I have a question.... Some of the smilie-face guys are difficult to decipher, especially with the new ones. Is the only list of their descriptions listed when you post? Is there an easy way so that when you scroll over them their decription can pop up? Just a question. caitlin
