Posted - September 09 2002 : 02:31:11 AM Pleas'd to make your acquaintance, Stan. Of course I've been around Mohicanland pennin' notes & sharin' gossip. I don't much hang around Bumppo's Tavern, though, as Nu'hum would just tar & feather me if she found out. She's none too fond of Reverend Wheelock (who's known to frequent this establishment in between his brimstone sermons) & she don't favor brandy. In fact, Nu'hum don't much favor highlander presbyters, English calvinists, or moravians - all known to drop by Bumppo's "more than their Christian share," says she. Nu'hum does have great affection for my father, Jonathan Daniels, an English Calvinist if ever there was one, and for Jacob Vink, her "Dushee" husband. But, she's a Delaware woman & if she says I must avoid Bumppo's I had better listen! I will try to sneak by from time to time, however, to fill you in on all the latest Mohicanland gossip.
Meanwhile, corn is ripen'n so I best be off to bundle it! We'll be poundin' meal & makin' sapan soon, & this year Nu'hum & I will be sellin' husk dolls & berry baskets to the traders from Philadelphia. I'll drop by when time permits & Nu'hum is hide tannin' (deer, not mine).
Until then ...
Masha`pilo`kasXkwe ... For that, I'm Thankful.
