Posted - July 06 2002 : 08:58:04 AM Can it be? Just two weeks ago we were all there. Hiking, taking in the glory of those splendid North Carolina gorges and waterfalls, enjoying each other's company. Well, the dust is settlin' on Ariel's Cabin shelves. We've had one more successful year - one more year of Gathering folks pulling together to feverishly handcraft, purchase and then hand over their donations by June. We had a most generous group of wonderful people who offered to lend a hand in this heart warming event - and raised a whopping $1,261 for Ariel. I can assure you, it will greatly help a little girl who faces another surgery in November - which won't be the last! So...as we get back to the routines (AND look forward to a Gathering 2003), I'd like to thank a few special folks who truly made Ariel's Cabin a rousing success.
I entered this new responsibility a bit reluctantly - first, because I wasn't entirely certain I would be attending the Gathering due to some scheduling conflicts. But most of all, I knew I would be following in the footsteps of one classy, well-loved and big-hearted Scotswoman. Kate Penman built Ariel's Cabin from the ground up and put so much into the previous 2 years' successes. I had NO reason to worry. Kate was most ready to give me advice and share her past experiences. So, a huge thanks to Kate I appreciate all her help and encouragement.
Next, I have to give a monumental thanks to Ann and Bill Colby for really boosting our fundraising efforts. They quietly purchased the Bill Miller "Three Wisemen" print, framed it, then promptly gave it away! The raffle of that print started us off at $354 - before the silent auction barely began! You're great, you guys

Posted - July 13 2002 : 8:01:20 PM As Jayne's assistant for the Ariel's Cabin adventcha, I just want to say how glad I was I could help out. Not only was it for such a great cause, but I got to make some great friends at the same time. I too want to thank Kate for her words of encouragement and the Colbys for all of their contributions to the Gatherings in general. I never the thought the first time Jayne "made" me watch that movie that it would lead to so many wonderful people and experiences. So~guess I should also say a big thanks to my little sis!! Karen W

Posted - July 09 2002 : 12:01:19 PM I do agree with Jayne that Ann Colby & Bill McCloud are "great guys". Some of you may not have realized that Bill had actually 'won' the rifle competition by shooting poor Duncan numerous times in the head. He graciously passed on the first place award. Lady Ann had arranged last year's horseback riding & potluck dinner and this year's competition. All in all, if I have not said it already - they are a class act!

Posted - July 06 2002 : 5:01:41 PM Well, since "thanks" are getting passed around here like summonses (is that the correct spelling?) are at the Arthur Anderson Accounting firm... Thank you too, Jayne, for stepping up to the plate and carrying the torch. You did us all proud!

Posted - July 06 2002 : 09:16:27 AM But I'm not finished yet!! I owe many thanks to my sister, Karen Williamson. She agreed to help me out, and help she did! She brainstormed with me, priced sale items, set up shop, and minded the store when I was flitting around the mountaintops! And she even said she'd do it again sometime.
And last but not least, I can't end before mentioning once again the generosity of the entire Gathering group. You gave your time, donations, opened your wallets, and really came through. Brings a tear to my eye, for sure!
Well, the check is heading north to Ariel's family, and all is quiet at Ariel's Cabin for another year. But...looking to 2003!
A safe and peaceful year to all! Most gratefully, Jayne
