Posted - July 01 2024 : 4:58:53 PM The "To Whom It May Concern" - Is an email I sent to the Fort. ... The Thank you etc. - is the boards reply - I just received. ... They now are having sewing & gown making events ... but almost no battle reanctments now. - A new kinda WOKE apprach, much like the Bud Lite fiasco. ... No paid director now to oganize things - guess you get what you pay for. . . Thank you for your care and concern for the Fort at No 4. We are deeply committed to bringing quality programming and events to our site and to our community. As you are clearly aware, we are now a 100% volunteer organization. As such, we are refocusing on our mission. . "To engage visitors in the exploration of the rich history of the Connecticut River Valley. To reach a wide audience through our dynamic, interactive programming, preservation efforts, and broad outreach. We believe that a deeper understanding of our past celebrates and builds better communities."
In this 2024 season, we are enhancing our annual reenactment events such as the French and Indian War Weekend that happened in May, and the Return to No 4 Revolutionary War weekend that is to come in September. There are many small scale events focusing on 18th century colonial life in between and several after. . If you are interested in something in particular, please feel free to reach out and offer it. I would also ask that you continue to check out our website as there are several events in development yet to be posted. . A sneak peek includes the Pequwaket weekend the first weekend in August, an 18th century Church service, the Children's living history weekend the second weekend in August, and multiple author visits with readings, programs, and artifact displays to follow.
Again, we sincerely appreciate the message.
Best to you, Alissa Bascom, treasurer, board of directors

To say this years schedule is a disappointment - doesn't describe it. The lack of reenacting events is almost a mystery. - Perhaps finding a new "Executive Director" (ASAP) would help get things back on track. |

Posted - July 04 2024 : 12:15:48 PM Your reply sounds good. I hope they realize what they are doing and understand how it will affect them. I would hate to see #4 fail after so many have made so much effort. |

Posted - July 03 2024 : 5:52:47 PM My reply to Alissa ... . Alissa et al - I'm truly sorry to hear about your "new mission" - somewhat reminds me of the recent "Bud Lite" fiasco. You'll be driving away the base that has supported the Fort for so many years. |

Posted - July 03 2024 : 09:13:01 AM That same thing has been happening at all the sites in my area. The only ones that hold on to the reenactments are the county and private sites. I think that the spectators will become bored after a few trips and the sites will start to loose visitors. Then they will say it is because the public's interest is changing, when it is really the site's failure to provide entertainment. The most asked question by random spectators is "what time is the battle". |
