Hi Gang,
I probably won't be around for awhile, so I wanted to go ahead and write this email tonight. This is such a wonderful group of people that believes that God listens to all of our prayers, so I am asking for y'all to include my great-grandson in your prayers. He is only three years old, but on February 10th, he has to have open heart surgery. He was born with a hole in his heart, and the doctors had hoped that it would get smaller as he grew older, but it has gotten much larger. I don't know the specifics about what they are going to do, but I know that they have to cut his little chest open and I think that they are going to put a gortex (sp?) patch on his heart. I have to admit that I am scared. I love Erik so much!!! Please keep him in your prayers!!!!!!! I love y'all and will be back soon.

I am glad to hear that he is doing so well. I am absolutely flabbergasted that he would be sent home a mere 3 days after having open heart surgery!

We were very surprised too because the day before the operation, we were told that he would probably be in ICU for about 4-5 days and then would spend about 2-3 days in a regular room. Well, he was in ICU on the 10th and 11th. The doctor said that he was doing well enough to be moved to a regular room, and he was only there for 1 day. The doctor checked him out and said that he was doing very good and didn't see why he couldn't go home. That was all Erik had to hear, and he was ready for his mama to take him home!!! I have always heard that children tend to heal faster than adults. I guess that there is some truth to that. But I actually think that what really helped was that God listened to all of our prayers!!!

Glad to hear that little Erik is doing well. (Apologies for the late response, but I haven't been around the site much lately!) I'll add him to my prayer list in hopes of a speedy recovery.
And, WW: I too was in the hospital for five days after my c-section. Going home three days after open heart surgery is remarkable. Kids' healing capacity is truly amazing! |

I am glad to hear that he is doing so well. I am absolutely flabbergasted that he would be sent home a mere 3 days after having open heart surgery! That is amazing! I was in for 5 days after my first C-section! And neither my son nor I had any complications. Wow.
I will continue my prayers for his speedy and complete recovery. |

I want to thank everybody that prayed for Erik. I knew that I could count on everyone here!!!
He came home today!  He is doing better than the doctors thought that he would. His surgeon was wonderful and they made sure to keep the family updated. I have to admit that when I saw him after his surgery, my heart just sunk. He was in pain and it hurt so bad to see him that way. He didn't understand why he was in so much pain and he would just look at us with sad little eyes and say "ouch." But now his "ouch" doesn't hurt so bad, and he is my little stinkerbug again.

Yes, Erik will be having his surgery done at MCG in Augusta. There are a few hospitals in Augusta, so I'm not for sure where your granddaughter had her surgery, but I am so happy that things turned out good for y'all!!!

I didn't know that you worked with babies with heart defects. It makes me feel better that you are so optimistic about it. I have told myself that I am only to think good thoughts and not let the scary thoughts enter my mind!!!

We are praying for little Erik. How often have you heard the phrase, "This is an everyday thing."? Well, it is, but when it's happening to you it's a different thing. Trust and faith will get everyone through this. Thinking of you. |

I'm so sorry to hear this Kay. It's so hard to see a little one have to go through this kinda thing at such a young age. My thoughts and prayers are with you, you're family, and of course little Erik! The Lord will watch over him. Take care of yourself!

Kay, I am certainly adding my own prayers, thoughts and best wishes to those already expressed. I can only imagine what your whole family is going through right now. I would be terrified, too.
But... listen to GG! She knows what she is talking about. I have no doubt that Erik is going to be just fine.
May the Good Lord Bless Erik and keep him safe, and may He give wisdom and knowledge to the surgeons. |

That is so sad Kay about little Erik. I will certainly keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Always sad when little ones have to undergo any kind of surgery. God Bless his little heart. God bless you too and his parents. |

Kay, my daily prayers will include little Erik and you and the whole family. May the surgery be a great and total success, and may the surgeon's hands and his team be guided by Almighty God. It's always tough, but especially when the patient is so little and may not understand what's happening to him. My littlest grandchild is 3, also, and I can relate to your feelings. May God blees you all. Please keep us informed......... |

I will offer prayers to God, and wishes of best skill to the doctors. I will also hope for the comfort and reassurance of his whole family as well, during this trying time. Please try to have faith in the Almighty, and the medical professionals, who are both watching over young Erik.

Keeping you and your family in my thughts and prayers, Kay! I work with babies with heart defects before and after they are born. They can do some amazing things these days and I have seen so many children that have had this type of surgery do WONDERFULLY!

Will this be done at Augusta? I don't know where he lives, but if it is Augusta, they have some really good doctors there. My granddaughter had surgery there when she was 2 months old, and I was impressed with the facilities. He will be in good hands in more ways than one. |
