Posted - April 07 2008 : 1:11:29 PM Has anyone else here gotten hooked on this season's Idol, besides me? I think this is the first time I have actually watched it with great interest. The reason is that they have an incredible lineup of talented kids this time. Incredible.
So, if anyone is watching it... who is your favorite? I'll start out with mine: David Archuleta, the cute 17 year old kid with the amazingly beautiful voice.
Look him up on YouTube and listen to his Idol performances, if you haven't heard him yet. |

Posted - May 08 2008 : 1:12:02 PM Amen sister Not much else to be said really except I am so happy the "dreaded one" is gone. When Ryan said Syesha's name my heart leapt and I was almost expecting him to say "your journey ends tonight" in which case I would have screamed like a "banshee" Thankfully that was not the case.
I agree any of the remaining 3 deserves to win but I do believe it will be the two David's in the final at least I hope so
Okay, now off to the dentist and get my wisdom teeth out Wish me luck |

Posted - May 08 2008 : 12:12:52 PM Yes!!!! The fans got it right, at last.
Now, it gets really interesting. Any one of those three finalists deserves to win, I think. And they are all three on their way....... |

Posted - May 07 2008 : 4:55:02 PM As am I.
I am just so pleased with Syesha's most recent performances. I always liked her, but once she sang "One Rock 'n Roll Too Many" on the Andrew Lloyd-Weber night, she just came alive. I think she has real talent and Randy and Simon have been way too hard on her in the past.
Still love both the Davids, as well. This one's gonna be tough! It absolutely has to come down to David, David, and Syesha.
If Jason doesn't go tonight, I'm really going to be peeved. |

Posted - May 07 2008 : 11:16:23 AM Okay just had to vent. What is up with that Jason Castro?. He was terrible last night. As you know never been a fan but last night it was like he couldn't even be bothered and "forgetting the lyrics" cardinal sin of Idol. Surely if there is any justice in this world, he will be gone tonight and another much better and more deserving singer will not have to leave as has been the case for weeks now.
David Archuleta was excellent last night. Especially loved his version of "Love Me Tender". Got worried when I heard him say he was singing Elvis but he really performed his version of the song to perfection. "Stand By Me" was also very good and love how he threw in the "beautiful girls" line to his little teenage fans (nothing like sucking up). As Simon would say "great choice of songs" and playing so well to his audience.
Jason has to go tonight.......I fear for the others especially Syesha tonight. Mr Dreads has to go. |

Posted - April 17 2008 : 09:22:06 AM Well Jason did not go last night either instead Kristy Lee Cook was the one to leave. Just not right but Jason is "popular" with the young girls. I hate when better singers get the boot before the ones who should go. Jason is not very good IMO and boring at times. I fear who will go next before him. Wait and see I suppose. |

Posted - April 11 2008 : 10:53:18 AM Theresa, look Israel up on YouTube and listen to his version of "Rainbow." I loved it.
I was quite surprised that Michael Johns was voted off, although it didn't bother me a bit. As I said, he was my least favorite at this point in the game.
Yes Kay, unfortunately, it is just a game. The most talented person doesn't necessarily win. For example, I thought Taylor Hicks was awful and that Katherine McPhee should have one. That girl can sing!
It will definitely be interesting to see who is the most popular this year. |

Posted - April 11 2008 : 10:15:16 AM WW, The first time that I heard Israel's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was at the end of one of the episodes of Cold Case. I just thought that it was so beautiful!!! I have loved it ever since. I love Hawaiian music too. Started way back years ago when I would listen to my parent's Don Ho records. I believe that he died a year or two back, but I will always love his songs!!!
IG, You have got to get your blood pressure down girl. You know that these things are more of a popularity contest than a talent contest.

Posted - April 11 2008 : 09:10:06 AM There are always these "shocking" eliminations and last night was one of them. Jason should have gone. Never been a "fan" of his singing. Never heard the Youtube version you guys are referring to by the Israel person but Jason's version was awful and reminded me of someone on a street corner singing to the passerbys with a hat by his feet for a collection...it was terrible I thought. God forbid he would end up winning it.
Michael Johns was good the other night and besides Jason being worse there was also Carly and Brooke who did not do their best performances either. Really pissed this morning about the elimination. Enough said I guess. |

Posted - April 11 2008 : 07:18:38 AM I've not heard Israel's version of "Over the Rainbow", but the year...oh shoot, can't think of her first name (how soon we forget)...McPhee sang it, I thought that was the best version of the song I'd ever heard. WAIT! Katherine McPhee is her name, runner up to Taylor Hicks, who visits my daughter's restaurant frequently. |

Posted - April 10 2008 : 6:56:57 PM Kay,
Thank you so much for posting Israel's name. I had never heard of him, or heard him sing before, and had no idea to whom Jason was referring when he talked about that version of the song.
I went to YouTube and looked him up. Wow. After hearing him sing "Over The Rainbow"... now I get it! And I love it! I also listened to a couple of his other songs that are posted there and I have to say that I just had a whole bunch of wonderful memories come flooding over me. I went to Hawaii with a girlfriend when I was 20 years old. I loved everything about the place, and I loved (still do!) the music of Hawaii.
So... yes. Now that I have heard the original of that version, I agree that Jason did a good job with the song. |

Posted - April 10 2008 : 5:39:01 PM I haven't been able to watch American Idol this season, but I did catch Jason Castro on Youtube singing, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." I thought that he did an excellent job. Nobody sings it as well as Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (May he rest in peace), but I really thought that he did very well with Israel's rendition of the song.

I surely can! I can wear a striped petticoat and work in the infirmary! Men. They never did know the proper names for a woman's garments.
Back to Idol...
Hey! No daggers flying around here, GG. I think it's great that we have different opinions about the contestants, much like the judges do. You just never know what they are going to say, do you? Well, except for Paula, who can rarely get out a coherent sentence.
I think Jason Castro is a really cute kid. I love his face. I've never liked the look of dreds, but I think they sort of fit his quirkiness. His voice, to me, is very pleasant, and with the right song he can sound really good. Yeah. I agree. When he came out with the ukelele, I thought, "Oh, man. This is really corny. I'll bet Simon is going to ream him out royally." Well, guess what. Simon made my jaw drop when he said the performance was "Fantastic." Go figure.
I think Kristy Lee Cook could be a pretty good country singer, even though she sounds just like so many others, and I think Simon has been unnecessarily hard on her each week. Yes, last night was her best night, so far. I tend to want to root for her, although she isn't the best singer of the bunch, because she is from my Oregon. However, I don't think she should win the competition.

Posted - April 09 2008 : 10:23:08 AM Oh My - let the daggers fly - I actually liked Jason's Over the Rainbow. I do wish he had a more original presentation to his music. I like his voice and even the dreads don't bother me. I liked Michael Johns song the best last night and love Carly's voice, but not so much last night's song. |

I guess after Montcalm captured the fort you could have worn a jupe and worked in the infirmerie. |

Posted - April 09 2008 : 09:23:30 AM I can't believe the Judges all praised Jason and loved his version of "Over the Rainbow". It was so boring. Every week he comes out and sings and plays his guitar...last night a Ukelele....please. He was awful and should go home tomorrow.
Brooke White did not do her best last night either and should also be in tomorrow's bottom 3.
I think my favorite last night was Kristy Lee Cook who sang her song great and I also liked Syesha and Michael Johns and David Archuleta.
Carly did sound like she was shouting and I believe did have some pitch problems and David Cook was definitely not at his best.
Of course tonight is "Idol Gives Back" so no elimination until tomorrow night. JASON NEEDS TO GO. |

So, my favorite performance on Idol tonight was Syesha's. She has a good voice that has a lot of power when she really lets go. I think the judges continually underrate her. Plus, she wins my vote for the prettiest smile!
David Archuleta's song was good, too, but I didn't feel it was one of his better performances. I liked last week's a lot more.
What did you all think?
I thought David Archuleta and Christy Lee Cook both did well this time. I like Carly but her song came across as a bit angry to me. I DID NOT like Jason's version of "Over the Rainbow". |

Posted - April 08 2008 : 4:35:22 PM Hah! As I have said before, Miss-yer Lay-Fran-say... the only way I would venture into a French encampment would be if I were flanked on each side by very large, brawny, green-coated Pennsylvania Provincial soldiers.
Besides, I have heard Frogs singing to each other off in the woods at night before. Rather tuneless, I think.

Well, to our resident curmudgeons Fitz and Obi, all I will say is if you like to hear good singers.....
If you want to hear good singers, come around to the Compagnie de la Corne camp at Ticonderoga after the sun goes down. THEN you will hear some singing!!! |

Posted - April 08 2008 : 12:57:52 PM Teresa I agree it would be hard to handle all that comes with being an American Idol winner but last Seasons Jordan Sparks was also 17 when she won. I think David Archuleta has a great chance to win and I am rooting for him all the way. If not him my fellow Irishwoman Carly or Michael Johns. I think Jason needs to go this week. I hate those dreadlocks.....YIKES |
