Posted - March 25 2008 : 7:25:17 PM Hello all in Mohicanland. Many of you may remember my dad underwent heart valve surgery in Cleveland back in January and came through well. Well, now he is back in the hospital with an infection around the pacemaker he has. He is being treated with IV antibiotics and we have no idea how long he will be in the hospital. He has no fever or anything and is generally doing pretty well. Please keep both of us in your thoughts and prayers! |

Posted - March 28 2008 : 11:17:47 PM Just wanted to let all know that after a 2.5 hour procedure Dad is doing extremely well. Doctors were very happy with how everything went. Pacemaker safely removed, temporary pacer in, infected leads safely out. Tomorrow he will be moved back to a regular room. He was already awake and getting something to eat when I left the hospital. Thank you, thank you AGAIN my friends for your prayers and support! I can't tell you how much it means! and once again...PRAYER WORKS!
Thanks again guys! |

Posted - March 28 2008 : 10:30:48 AM Hi Monadnock -- we're not sure. The good thing is that because of the heart valve surgery his heart function has improved in the past two months to the point where he may not even NEED one. The cardiologist is going to be evaluating that over the weekend. My understanding is they may put him on some sort of temporary pacing device until they make the final decision. Ideal situation of course would be NOT to need any of these devices at al! :-) |

Posted - March 28 2008 : 10:03:21 AM BTW Christina, - are there plans to replace the pacemaker with another once the infection has cleared up? |

Posted - March 28 2008 : 09:51:08 AM Just an update...my dad is having surgery this afternoon to remove the infected pacemaker. It's not open heart surgery or anything...they just basically open a flap and take the device out. He'll be under only limited anesthetic and should be back up in his room by tonight. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers if you could! |
