Posted - September 15 2007 : 4:46:48 PM Hello everyone,
This Halloween, me and several friends are putting on a performance inspired by the Pirates of the Carribean films. I've worked on a very imaginative and funny script with a friend which captures the spirit of the ride, film, and characters.
I am playing Captain Jack Sparrow and I will lead the "tour", consisting of neighborhood kids, family, and friends, around my house, which looks like the Alamo, but serves as our Tortuga backdrop. The front yard will be Tortuga, with tables, tiki torches, and drunk pirates and wenches, and the back yard will be the exciting, carefully coordinated swordfight between me and the evil Jolly Roger, another undead pirate. As all of this goes on, people will experience everything from the films. The soundtrack will be playing, there will be appropriate lighting, and fog machines. And ofcourse, the scripts plot, while short, will play out throughout. And towards the end, I give out candy to all of the little scallywags.
Anyway, I'm one of those who has a keen eye for detail and accuracy. And to pull of the character of Captain Jack Sparrow, I have to look and sound like him. Now, I've succeeded in pulling off the accent, but I've had trouble finding certain pieces to his costume. And if you've seen any of the POTC films, you can see he has quite an outfit. So far, I have the tricorn hat and have just ordered an amazing Jack Sparrow wig, but it was a bit pricey. While I'd love to piece the entire costume together, detail by detail, it takes money to do so and I'm not made of it. Although, I wish I was sometimes. lol If any of you could help me out in aquiring certain pieces to his wardrobe, or point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Here's the knee high breeches that he wears and which I am currently trying to find. I amazed at the accuracy they put into his costume. http://www.sithcamaro.com/jack_comp/breeches.jpg
All the best, Wade Dillon |

Posted - November 04 2007 : 10:03:55 PM red, ive been to the blackbeard place, quite the dissapointment. we went down to hampton va, for the blackbeard festival a few times, had alot of fun. this weekends event went very well, a bit cold but the turnout was good. nothing like blasting a poor militiaman with a blunderbuss form about 30 feet! h-b |

well, since we are talking pirates, i invite everyone to check out the webpage for my pirate reenacting group. www.piratebrethren.com we have a event in maryland this weekend, along the chesapeake, quite a hot bed of pirate activity in the late 17th/early 18thc.
going to be a bit cold on the river, but alas thats why god made rum! h-b
Hey, h-b! Pirate re-enacting looks like fun, especially if you add the rum. Just curious: Have you ever done events in NC? There's a (small, unfortunately) Blackbeard museum at the coast and the Parade of Tall Ships comes around every few years. There are always a lot of pirates and scallywags hanging around the docks then!
And Wade~~Good job on the Jack Sparrow costume. Looks like it was a fun night! |

Posted - November 02 2007 : 10:33:23 PM I'd give you a great grade on the Jack Sparrow costume, and the highest grade a pirate can get is "arrrrrrrr!" |

Posted - September 28 2007 : 11:17:03 AM Light of the Moon, I'll see what I can find. Thank you.
Wilderness Woman, the reason I said that was because I thought it was funny! lol Just imagining someone rub coal on their eyes and then react to how much it burns would be funny. Well, maybe for a few minutes. lol
Take care.

So, don't worry, I'm not gonna smear coal in my eyes lol Who would do that anyway?
Sorry, Wade. I did not mean to imply that you were stupid enough to do that. It was my seemingly poor attempt at more humor.
Ah well... |

Posted - September 28 2007 : 12:22:09 AM Doh! Did I spell coal and not kohl?! LOL!!! Thanks for pointing out my emabarrassing typo! Kinda' falls in right behind "mechanical laughter"...remember that Obi? Sheesh, am I a luney!
And eye kohl washes off much easier than liner. MAC sells a good one but it's pricey. If you get some be sure to put it in the freezer for about 5min. before you sharpen it, otherwise the tip will just fall out.
And if you run into the problem where you can't seem to get the stuff off, eye makeup remover by Mary Kay works really good. |

Posted - September 28 2007 : 12:04:44 AM Hey Wilderness Woman. Thank you for the concern, but when she suggested Eye KOHL, I immediately imagined some kind of pencil eye-liner. So, don't worry, I'm not gonna smear coal in my eyes lol Who would do that anyway?
Take care.

Posted - September 27 2007 : 8:04:29 PM Wade,
Just in case you are thinking of taking hold of a lump of coal and putting it around your eyes... don't!
You may have better luck looking for Eye Kohl. It comes in the form of a pencil eye-liner. It is fairly soft so you can smudge it on. I don't know how easily it washes off, however. You may want to find out about that first. |

Posted - September 27 2007 : 3:46:23 PM Hey everyone,
Ofcourse, I'll add more eyeshadow. I just put everything on quickly for the photos.
Light of the Moon, where can I find Eye Coal? lol
But yes, I'll try my best to do Johnny Depp justice. Even if that means eyeshadow. lol I've also got a pair of braid extensions for my goatee, but have no idea how to attach them. Now, I'm just looking for the trousers and boots. And then, I am set!
Take care!

Posted - September 27 2007 : 12:15:12 PM Having studied make up artistry your make up looks good, Wade but definately darken that eye liner AND shadow. In fact would be good to get some eye coal instead of liner, goes on darker, usually has more pigments in it so the light catches the color instead of fading it. |

I agree with WW about the eyeliner Wade. Go crazy with it. |

Posted - September 25 2007 : 1:25:56 PM I recently received the wig in the mail and bought the coat at a nearby Halloween store. The white cuffs you see are actually attached to the inside sleeve of the coat. And a vest came with it, but it's not seen in these photos. I am still searching for the trousers and boots.
Tell me what you think, mates. And thanks for all the suggestions and help!

Posted - September 25 2007 : 12:57:55 PM Already checked out Spencers and Hot Topic where I got my adorable Snape t-shirt that I love. Well my 16 year old bought it for me. No costumes there and Wally just has the usual stuff. The "Snape wig" is unique. Doubt I could find anything that gorgeous anywhere. |
